Changi Airport hotel?
We will be staying one night in Singapore on our way home from NZ, arriving at 8pm and departing 6am. We will already have stayed in the city en route to NZ, so for this portion of the trip we are really just looking for a close, clean hotel with a decent pool for our three kids to unwind and to sleep in. Le Meridian is booked the night we will be there. Any other suggestions?

I've stayed a few times at Le Meridien Changi but it takes about 25 minutes to get there, not that close at all so you may just as well go downtown. My personal favorite hotel in Singapore is the 'Royal Peacock', absolute gem, boutique hotel with all modern comforts but built in 'old world character, it's cheap too! About USD 60 a night, just on SGD/AUD 100 a night. No pool though, otherwise try Miramar for a decent 3-star level that is very reasonable, maybe New Park, also good value.

http://www.singapore.travelreporter.com

Otherwise any of the mid-range hotels such as the York or Elizabeth would suit. Don't get caught by so-called 'near Changi' hotels like the Seaview, it takes just as long and they are low standard.

Just noticed you arrive 8 pm and depart 6 am, will you have time for the pool?
In that case I would head for the York or Elizabeth.
I just looked at the Changi Airport website and apparently there is a hotel IN the airport, the Transit Hotel. There seems to be one in both terminals. (Don't know about Terminal 3, is it even open yet?) It has a pool (looks like indoor) and apparently you don't even have to clear customs to get to it -- which would save you time on both ends. I can't say anything about the hotel, I wasn't even aware it existed. Go to airport-hotel.com.sg or call:
Terminal 1: Tel 6542 5538
Terminal 2: Tel 6542 8122
I don't know that I would call the sleeping rooms in Changi a hotel... The rooms are clean, but VERY basic. I've stayed there a number of times when I was arriving at midnight (after frying from the US) and had a flight out at 7 or 8 am. I have heard that there is a swimming pool, but I've never seen it. If basic rooms are all you need, then by all means. stay at Changi. If you'd like to have a nice dinner and let the kids swim at midnight, then go into the city.

I have stayed at the Transit hotel inside the transit area several times for stops of 3-4 hours but last visit I wanted a room from 9 pm to 7 am and as they charge in blocks of hours it was going to cost SGD 168 !! Which is over the top for such tiny rooms. So I actually saved money going downtown even allowing for the cab fare!
They are OK for up to 6 hours but beyond that the price isn't worth it.

After 8 pm it will only take 20-25 minutes from Airport to Orchard Road area.

Krisyn, you did not say which airline you are travelling with. Try and book your baggae all the way through and just take a change of light clothes as hand baggage.
