Are their flights into Agra?

I have received conflicting information regarding flights directly into Agra.

We are supposedly scheduled to fly from Varanasi to Agra, but I have been told by others (something to the effect) that the military has taken over the Agra airport and no longer allow for commercial flights. Am I getting bad information? Can one fly into Agra? Is a train a better alternative?

I'd like to know answer to this question, also. We are returning to India Dec 2005 and may want to fly the same route. Anyone?

Just out of curiosity, I checked the Indian Air and Jet Airways websites. Neither airline flies to Agra.

Also just checked Air Sahara and Air Deccan - neither flies to/from Agra.

Hi Craig,

Yes, I checked the airlines as well, but when I look that the Amarvilis website it says: "By air: Agra’s Kheria Airport is located 9km from The Oberoi Amarvilâs. Indian Airlines operate flights from Delhi on Monday, Wednesday and Friday." There is no mention about Varanasi, but maybe I'm transited via Delhi. That being said, there seems to be a bit of mystery around flights into Agra--since they don't show up on any flight tables (I downloaded the Indian Airlines spreadsheet--not there).

If anyone has flown into Agra, it would be great to hear from you.

BostonHarbor - why not try e-mailing Amarvilas and/or Indian Airlines to see what they have to say. I suspect the Amarvilas website may be out of date.

When I was in Agra in January, I asked a travel agent about why there were no flights at that time. He told me that the government stops the flights into Agra regularly and allows them to resume at a later time!! Go figure. We took the train to Agra from Jaipur and on to Varnasi.

I have written to India Air. Email response does not appear to be a particularly strong suite of the airline. Thus, I am turning to the Fodors audience.

However, it is no big deal--it will be what it will be. See, I'm already taking on the cloak of the right attitude for India ;-)

BTW, someone just sent me pictures taken this week of Lake Pichola in Udaipur. It is rapidly filling up and the boat transfers to the Taj Lake Palace are back up and running after a very long dry spell.
