Approximate airfare prices from Europe to Singapore?
My father lives in Singapore, and I am considering a visit next summer. I live in the Boston area, and was thinking of purchasing 2 RT tickets -- 1 RT from Boston to Europe and one from Europe to Singapore.
My reason in doing this would be to spend a little time in a European city each way to Singapore, both to break up the long flight, and also just to see/experience more
My husband would possibly fly over to Europe on my way home from Sg, so we could spend some time in Europe together before flying back to Boston together. My question is -- what are approximate RT plane tickets from Europe to Singapore, say from places like London, Paris, and Rome? I know this is a hard question as fares are always changing. I would want a non-stop from Europe to Singapore, and am most interested in Singapore Airlines, as that is what my dad flys and enjoys.
This is not set in stone, just beginning to think about ideas for next summer that would include visiting my dad in Singapore, and allowing my husband and I to meet somewhere on my travels home! Thanks so much for your help!

Go to the Singapore Airlines website and put in your cities. That's the way to get accurate price quotes. Also, once you have prices, I'd suggest that you call SIngapore Air and ask about an airfare from Boston to SIngapore with a stopover on the return in the European city. Compare the prices, often a stopover will cost you less than two sets of tickets.

Thanks Kathie! Right now the prices on the SA website are very high for next June ($5,000 Euros!!) and I can't imagine that's normal. And SA doesn't fly from Boston...only JFK and EWR. My dad pays about $1300 usually for non-stop EWR-SIN.

northwest from boston can give you both transit through amsterdam (probably with a stop) and westward through detroit or minneapolis and tokyo....
from NYC you might have better luck...
there is a middle eastern airline which flies ny to stockholm and then to dubai and then bangkok---emerites i think or eva???
many airlines offer a stop over...
B/A direct from boston allows a stop each way..
a stop over would be far cheaper than two tickets i think

have you noticed out posting for a get together in cambridge (boston) on oct 15 at the hotel @ MIT at 12:30....there will be a lot of asia board people attending and we would love to meet you and give you tons of ideas....europe people as well will be there...

Yipes! What are you searching for that gives you a 5000 Euros price?
There is a Singapore AIr non-stop from EWR to SIN now which may make more sense for you, and the $1300 RT sounds about right.
Also, note that you can only book a flight 11 months in advance. So perhaps you put in date that got converted to this year and you found a very high fare for a flight departing next week. Still 5000 Euros seems impossibly high.

Often a year in advance fares are only published full fare econ/bus/first class fares. Any discount fares, which is just about what everyone flies, are added later...between 2 weeks and 11 months out. The fares are always in flux, changing all the time based on a complicated projection formula that sets fares based on previous years' load and fare date, projected loads, supply and demand, current sales and loads for flights....complicated and no way for us consumers to know if it's going up or down really.
To anwer your question, you can probably get a RT ticket Boston to Singapore for between $900 and $1500 in summer, depending on your date of departure and length of stay. To add a stop in Europe, you may want to consider an Around the World ticket...Boston to Singapore to Europe to Boston - add another Asian stop or an Africa/India? Check the Sunday NYTimes travel section for some brokers. Airlines also offer them. Explore all your options. You have the time to really do the ticket shopping thoroughly.

Currently a London /Singapore return on Singapore Air is around £750 travelling this Aug. However earlier this year Singapore were running a promotion in the UK - returns for £499 + a free return ticket anywhere in SE Asia. Booking in advance, you can usually get something direct for around £500 to SE Asia this can drop to £350 - 400 if you are prepared to fly via another European city (Amsterdam /Paris are usual. BA usually have offers Boston/London return for around £200 -300. I am not sure how easy it is for you to buy tickets in the UK from the US or how these process compare. But try London. It is a great city and in view of recent events needs all the visitors it can get at the moment!
