2 weeks in August
Sorry, this is a long post. I am travelling to Thailand & Vietnam for 5 weeks and then my husband is joining me for 2 more weeks. I'm trying to figure out where we should go. From what I've read on the boards, here's what I've come up with:
-3 nights BKK at Peninsula or Marriott
-3 nights in Siem Reap at FCC Ankgor
-5 nights in Luang Prabang... either Maison SV or & Residence Phao Vao
-2 last nights in BKK (we leave from there)
What do you think? Also, should we get discovery airpasses? I wonder how much they will cost in the end, since the $90/intl leg doesn't include taxes or fees. I'm also not sure if it will let me book all the flights before we go. (I don't want to do it on the fly)
Any advice would be much appreciated..

Overall, I think this is a good plan. I would trade one night in LP for one in SR (so you have 4 nights in each), as you need a full three days just to visit the major temples.
With the Discovery pass, you do book all of your flight ahead of time. I can't tell you the total cost, but it will be less than the regular ticket prices. The flights in/out of SR and LP are rather expensive.
This looks like a wonderful trip!

you will save a lot of $$ with the international destinations with the pass i believe...not on the domestic however...
how about bali for the final two weeks on thai air...also treat the boss to a day or two at the penn...and thus you stay at the marriott at the beginning...allow a day at the beginning of his trip and the end of the whole trip in bkk...plenty to do there....
i agree with kathie about your days line up...

Thank you both for your suggestions & advice. I will take a night from LP and add to SR. And treating ourselves at the Peninsula at the end sounds nice However, if I stay at the same hotel...maybe I could leave a bag or 2 for the week? I'm going to have a ton of luggage. I will def get discovery passes... One last question: can I book them through a U.S. travel agent? or do it myself? Thank you!!

I expect the Pen will store your luggage. I usually store luggage at my Bangkok hotel while I'm off somewhere else in SE Asia. I always stay at the same hotel, and they deliver my stored luggage to my room when I return at the same time they deliver my luggage that has just arrived.
I think you have to book the Discovery Pass directly with Bangkok Air. They have a US phone number, all you have to do is call them. You can pay via cashiers check or money order, or for a 5% premium, you can charge it to your credit card.

we leave bags all the time at hotel...we just pretend that we are returning there later...then we just go and pick it up and tip the bellmen well....never a problem...
we do this all the time at the marriott, although usually we are returning there, but not always...
have never left a bag at the penn....

Scout-any of the 4 or 5 star hotels will be glad to store your luggage, even if you're not returning to that hotel. You could stay at the Marriott at the fron end and the Pen at the back end. The M will store your stuff. It's Asia. They're service-oriented.
