1day in Tokyo worth it??
We have an opportunity to spend one day in Tokyo after a trip to China. Because of our work schedules and the trip schedule, we could arrive at Narita at 1pm and our flight would leave Narita at 2pm the following day. ? Would we see enough and be able to get to Tokyo in time, or would we be better to wait til we have more time to do Japan.

I ask myself a simple question in this case: if "more time to do Japan" never came, would I kick myself later for not visiting Tokyo even for a part of a day?

Of course, one day is short. You certainly have a time to visit one or perhaps two areas. After seeing a glimpse of Tokyo, you will have much better idea how you want to visit Tokyo later if the opportunity presents itself again.
Good point by nickn.

Sure....go to Tokyo....that would give you the late afternoon and evening. The next day will be taken up by getting back to the airport and making your connection. Just to walk around and see Tokyo is great. It is safe at night,so walking is okay....Nice conclusion to a China trip!

Message: Back in 1971 I flew from Seattle to Seoul via Tokyo--Korea still had a curfew so that particular flight included an overnight stay in Tokyo. We were actually got to our hotel in Tokyo at around 3 PM, and had to leave our hotel at 5 AM the next morning. So we had about 12 hours in Tokyo. It was one of the best 12 hour periods I ever spent--didn't get to do much sightseeing, but learned much about Japanese restaurants and nightclubs. I'll never forget it.
