UAL Bankruptcy

Plz clarify--by going bankrupt do u mean out of business? Most observers overwhelmingly agree that will not happen.Going into bankruptcy for purposes of reorganization financially and trimming their expenses is a possibility and some would say a probability.Should they "go bust" and cease to operate, yours and all FF miles would have no value.Should they go into bankruptcy,it is highly unlikely they would further alienate their frequent fliers--the core of their revenue--by adjusting the FF program. That is only my HO.I am not an expert on anything except getting to and from my work.
Eric

I think that bankruptcy would force UAL to become a more efficient carrier. Right now the mechanics union has them in a stranglehold. Pilots and FA's have agreed to concessions, but not the mechanics. Last fall just after 9/11, the then CEO (I don't remember his name) of UAL was just about tarred and feathered for stating that UAL was in trouble and might not survive the downturn. He was removed amid accusations he was "lowering morale". PLEASE! How right he turned out to be.
Anyway, bankruptcy would invalidate UALs union contracts, and they might actually be able to adopt a reasonable business model. Your FF miles would not be in jeapordy. Look what happened to TWA. They went bankrupt and their customers' miles are now honored by the new owner, American.

Dont worry about your HoneyMoon. Its booked. When United files bankruptcy there may be a reduction in the availability of seats which can be booked with FF miles. But the filing wont have any effect on using them. The actual operation of United will be most noticeable in the lower level of customer service available to the traveller. This will be the result of the reduction of the work force.Since "customer service" is an amenity and not a mandatory item,it will go out the window first. This is regrettable.

I received the following email yesterday. I am assuming that anyone who currently holds United tickets got the same message:

"It is no secret that things have been tough at United. We were disappointed to learn yesterday that the Airline Transportation Stabilization Board (ATSB) could not approve the proposal submitted by United for a $1.8 billion federal loan guarantee.

Whatever course we now chart with the company, I want to be emphatically clear that United will continue to fly and deliver exceptional service to customers worldwide. And, as a Mileage Plus(R) member, you can continue to accrue and redeem miles with confidence.

Challenging times make a company stronger, leaner and more focused. The employees of this airline stand ready and committed to serve you today and in the future.

Thank you for your support and we'll keep you posted.

Sincerely,

Chris Bowers
Senior Vice President
Marketing and sales

********************************* **************
While this email address is unable to accept replies, please contact us at our dedicated Customer Relations email address:

mailto:[email protected]"
