Possible to change flight if space is available?
Our BA tickets were obtained using AAdvantage miles, IAH-LHR/GTW-BOD with return LHR-IAH. The outbound itinerary calls for an overnight in London with flight out next day to Bordeaux. However, there is a flight GTW-BOD that leaves a day earlier, but that flight wasn't an option when we made our reservations. If there is space available on that flight, is there a possibility we could get on the earlier one? Or are we committed to the original ticketing?

Depends on the Loyalty Programs T&C but generally speaking, you can only fly in seats that are allotted as an award ticket.
Best thing to do is call and ask. Asking is free. Best case they can do it no problem, middle case they can do it but it will cost yoiu $$$, worst case they can't do anything.

There won't be a fee if the new connection is "legal" - I think more than 3 hours between arriving at LHR and departing from LGW. You can try to make this change online; if you have to do it on the phone I think it will be a $25 phone fee, maybe $50.
If the new departure is within 24 hours of your arrival, and the old one was over 24 hours, then you should also receive a refund of the UK air passenger duty that you probably already paid when you were ticketed. APD is payable on flights originating in the UK, but waived for transits of under 24h. Probably £13 if you're in economy, £26 if in business class. Be sure to ask about this if you rebook on the phone; I'd be surprised if you'll get a refund if you do it online.

Thanks. I emailed BA and got a reply that didn't address the question. Will try telephoning but I think I know the answer since the earlier flight wasn't listed as having award seats. I'm probably stuck with the overnight connection.
