Passport and Desperation

Hello, I'm sure hoping someone can give me some help. After months of planning and anticipation, I cannot travel to England tomorrow because my passport has expired. I won't go into how or why this happened, but I'm sure being punished for my stupidity. Of course I picked a holiday weekend to be this dumb. My question to you folks is this: I can get to the Boston Passport Agency on Tuesday morning, do you know if there is any way I will be able to renew my passport and leave the building with it in my hand, on Tuesday? Wednesday? I know this is not the worse thing to happen to someone by any means, but I owe it to my family to at least try to make this better. Thank you all for your assistance.

Generally speaking you can get your Passport the same day if you go to the Passprt Agency BUT, AND IT"S A BIG BUT, you normally have to have a prte-set appointment. Go to the US state department passport website (http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html) for more information on your options.

Option two (which will cost more) Find one of those passport agencies. They make "appointments" just in case. They may be able to get you in.

I would just show up and "beg" if it were me

Good luck!

Yes, you can get your passport the same day!!!! Don't worry about the appointment process. Here's what to do.

Make an appointment thru 800 number for the earliest opening and write down the reference number. If the Boston office is similiar to Miami office then a security guard will only ask for your reference number. In Miami it was never verified that I had an actual appointment for that day. Once inside you will pick a number and wait your turn in line. The window clerk will just ask for your passport documents.

This is based on my experience recently in the Miami office. In the worst case, you can plead your case. Be sure to bring cash or credit/debit card along with required pictures and your airline tickets.

If you plan to do extensive traveling ask for the extended visa pages passport.

Good luck with your travel plans, we are all counting on you!

Follow DMBTraveler's advice.

Here is a thread from a couple of days ago that has lots of good info. Granted - they had more time than you do, but it explains how to get same day passports. You'll be OK - just maybe a day or two later than you planned.

Update: I showed up at the Boston passport office at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Opens at 8:30 a.m. I couldn't make an appointment beforehand because all fed. offices were closed on Monday. Well, I wasn't alone that's for sure. However, at 4:00 p.m. I walked out with my passport. Couple of things: be sure to have all your documents (the form from the website, new photos, license and copy of itinerary) The last one is the only reason I was able to get it so soon. One last thing, the guards in the Boston office are extremely strict. It would have been funny if we weren't all in a state of near panic. Also, I learned that the Portsmouth NH office is starting walk-in service within the next few months. Thanks to those who responded and now I'm off to England.
