I don't recall seeing an actual drug store in Terminal C but there are a couple of shops that sell magazines/books/newspapers and sundries and I know they have small tubes of toothpaste for sale. Sorry don't know if they sell suntan lotion. The shops where I saw toothpaste are located in the main terminal area (outside the security checkpoint). I never noticed if toothpaste was available at the sundry shops inside the secure area.

You can bring 3oz of both toothpaste and suntan lotion in your carryon - just be sure it fits in you "1 Qt. ziplock bag". If you need more why not wait to purchase the items at a drg store when you reach your final destination - you'll be able to by bigger sizes and it certainly should be cheaper than in the airport shop which will probably only have the small travel sizes (less than 3 ounces).

Thanks for your reply. I doubt it will
be cheaper, as I will be on my way to the caribbean.

Well, from my experience toothpaste isn't THAT expensive in the Caribbean especially if you by it in a drug store as opposed to getting in the hotel gift shop. Suntan lotion, on the other hand, does sell at a premium but considering the overall cost of a week's vacation, the cost of a tube/bottle of sunblock is not enough to break the bank.

Unfortunately with the current TSA rules you either have to put your sunblock in checked luggage or bite the bullet and purchase it when you get on-island.

By the way, even if you could purchase what you needed in the quantity you need at Newark Airport you still couldn't put it in your carry-on as you'd still be subject to the "3 oz. rule" regardless of where you purchased the items.

It has nothing to do with price. Its a matter of convenience/choice. If you read the new guidelines again you will see that
once you go through security, you can now
purchase water, and other items in the terminal and bring them aboard.

I understand the conveience factor (I agree with you on that point and was not trying to "put you down&quot and yes, you can bring water and certain other items purchase inside security on to the plane but not restricted items like toothpaste or sunblock which are the so-called "liquids and gels". Check the TSA website for the latest regulations, which by the way seem to be open to different interpretation by the screeners at different airports and even by different screeners at the same airport.

Unfortunately, these are the inconviences we air travellers have to put up with nowadays. And no amount of debate on this forum will change that.

Penndale - you can see a list of the shops in EWR terminal C at http://www.panynj.gov/CommutingTrave.../ewr_shop.html
A_Traveller - actually, once you are through security you needn't worry about the 3 oz limit unless you will be making a connection that requries passing through security again.

Seamus - the whole point of the TSA regulations is you are not allowed to carry more than 3 oz. of the "liquids or gels" (not including certain drinks that you purchase after clearing security) on the plane. I certainly understand that once you pass through the security checkpoint the chances of someone looking through your carry-on bags is very remote but it still remains that a tube of toothpaste (or any prohibited liquid or gel) larger than 3 oz. is prohibited from being carried on the aircraft - regardless of where it is purchased. Yes, it is true that the TSA has eased it's restrictions on bottled water and other "drinks" alowing you to purchase them inside the secure area and bring them on the plane but the rules for the "restricted" liquids and gels still remain in effect. Anyone can check the TSA web-site for the lastest list or approved and restricted items.

Most of the shops at EWR's terminal C (as well as other Terminals) are outside the security checkpont so that doesn't help Penndale. The shops inside security will not have "prohibited liquids and gels" in sizes above 3 oz. making this discussion a bit moot. This subject has been discussed to death in threads on this and other travel forums - the result is always the same. The TSA restrictions make it very inconvenient for travellers and regardless of how we all may feel about it we are at their mercy.

A_Trav - yep, i know the regs, but there is also the reality. And the shops at EWR are after the security check, not before. Only place I can think of where onem ight find these things - aside from duty free - would be L'Occitane

It looks like nothing is set up as far as
stores go to meet this demand. Hey, its not a biggy, and A Traveller I honestly did not think you were putting me down. This issue can be confusing---
