Moving pets overseas...

Anyone ever use "Animal Land" to send your pet(s) overseas or back?

I'm making my mid-range plans for a move to Italy.

I'm investigating companies that specialize in moving pets around the world. I'm wondering if anyone has ever heard of/used/reviewed "Animal Land Pet Movers".

They seem to have some good comments on their website, but this is my first time moving pets, so no use of any service like this in the past.

Part of me is panicked at the thought of someone else moving them, and them being out of my sight for a day or more. But trying to take 4 cats myself on an overseas flight is more than I think I can bear. Either way, I reckon' I will be totally stressed out until they are safe in my Italy apartment.

Any input/comments/suggestions/other services you've used for the same thing/etc are welcomed.

Thanks! (I'm going to also post in "Europe" forum.)

Sorry I don't have an answer but like you I would be a stressed out maniac at the thought of my cats travelling when they cannot see me. If I was going overseas and I had my way, I'd have them on my seat next to me! Good luck.

This may sound harsh. But you might consider leaving the cats w/ a new family back home.

I know that sounds unthinkable . . . But I have moved pets transatlantic more than once (one time two cats, an other time a Scottie and a cat, and finally just the Scottie).

I LOVE my animals, but would have to think looooong and hard before ever doing it again. Now, most of the time everything works out OK. And generally they did for me. But one of the cats was totally traumatized and never fully recovered. Was crate/carrier/hand terrified for the rest of her life.

The Scottie/cat shipment was a big mess. Baggage handlers held a wildcat 'work to rule' which slowed down everything at LHR. Because flights were canceled/combined there were too many animals for my flight, they ended up not being on my flight and were 'misplaced' for more than 16 hours.

The Scottie was very adaptable and generally went w/ the flow - but he became very skittish and it was 5 or 6 months beforehe was back to normal.

Just something to think about

janisj- there is no chance I'm going without them. I'm sorry you didn't have the best experiences.

Which is why I may pay a pet service to do it. Sounds like they are professionals at getting your pet through the red tape and expediting from door-to-door. The peace of mind would be worth it.

I'll let you all know what I decide to do. But still interested in more input, if anyone has anything to add.

Thank yoU!

I don't know this particular service but when I wanted to the same with my cat a few years ago I talked to a few different pet breeders/showers in my hometown who transport their animals often to get some recommendations as to services they use.
