Istanbul ataturk airport visa required?

hi,

I'm visiting Turkey for 5 days. After this I will be taking Aegean airlines to visit Santorini, Greece for 5 days.
Then I would be returning Istanbul Ataturk airport in the afternoon & in the evening taking a connecting Turkish airline flight back to India.

I would need to collect bags from Aegean airlines and then check-in to Turkish airlines, do I need visa for this ?

Thanks in advance.

Visa rules tend to be nationality dependent. What is your citizenship?

Do you need a visa for your 5 days in Turkey? If so wouldn't it be valid on your return? And if you don't need one for 5 days, why would you need one in transit?

Typically, a visa expires when you leave the country (there are some exceptions to this, multi-entry visas). So it is a valid question.

Good point, Kathie. The only document I've needed recently other than a passport is for Australia. There electronic travel authority is good for multiple entries for a year.

It does depend on nationality.
As a US citizen, I just purchased my Turkey e-visa online. Good for 90 days within a 180 period with multiple entries.

"You need a passport and visa to travel to Turkey. Passports should be valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Turkey and must have enough blank space to allow for Turkish entry and exit stamps. There is one exception to the visa requirement: U.S. citizens who are traveling to Turkey by cruise ship are allowed to enter Turkey without a visa for a maximum period of 72 hours, with permission given by the local security authorities at the port of entry. If you are traveling for tourism or commerce for up to 90 days within a 180 day period, you can apply for a visa online at www.evisa.gov.tr The multiple entry e-Visa, which is valid for 180 days, costs $20 (U.S.)."

I'm an Indian citizen. I can only get single entry eVisa. I'm assuming my visa will be invalid when stamped once I leave turkey. I should be able to reclaim my baggage in transit area and check-in to Turkish airline. Can I without another visa ?

Thanks

I don't know anything about the Ataturk airport specifically, but generally speaking if you remain in the transit area you have not technically entered the country so no immigration or customs requirements.

I suggest you find a map of the airport online and confirm that you will be able to stay in the transit area.

I have no info on the airport, but there are two issues here. First, whether one can remain in transit. Second, if Aegean will transfer bags to TK. If they don't, then one almost have to go through immigration to get to the bags area. That's how most airports work in the world (with some exceptions, of course).
