Advice on traveling with prescription medications

Will be flying to Europe this summer and haven't flown internationally with liquids ban. I NEVER check my medication, always in my purse or carry on bag, as once my luggage was lost. Here is the question - will be carrying 6-8 vials of insulin/pen to last for my vacation. When I fly domestically, it's never a problem. But curious to know if others think international might be a problem. Should I plan to bring the prescription label with me? Doesn't need to be kept refrigerated, just not heated. Suggestions? Thanks!

Yes, they should be in the original packaging and with prescription label. A copy of the prescription is also a good idea.

Check with the airline; some carriers have different rules, however, I have not heard of a case where insulin and pen were confiscated. Having a doctor's note could also help. A copy of the prescription is key as said above.

Just a thought: bring a little more than you need in the event you are delayed anywhere.

If you are travelling to a place which is very hot during the summer, e.g., Rome, consider carrying a cold pack for day trips.

You are absolutely wise to not check your medications. Yes, bring the prescription label with you, at a minimum. Even better would be to bring a copy of the prescription itself, if possible. You probably would not be able to use that to obtain the medication at a foreign pharmacy but it expedites things in the event you need to obtain refill/replacement while outside the country (unexpected delay, bag lost or stolen, etc.)

It won't be a problem. I've tried with an insulin dependent diabetic to Italy before and she had the pre-loaded syringes (enough for two weeks).

Medical supplies are exempt from the liquid restrictions. But I do always travel with the prescription labels.

I carry the insulin in a Frio pack and just fold the boxes with the prescription label. Have never been asked for them.
