yes, it is also a japanese thing and it's also a british thing very shortly. and in the uk all passengers from t5 will be fingerprinted and the programme will be extended outward to all airports. i was in SA about 6 months ago and there was no fingerprinting.

Does the US use ink when FPing visitors? In Japan, they have a simple and quick system that involves no mess, muss, or fuss (as you might expect from that nation). Just place you index fingers on the little holder, and you're done in 5 seconds.

what price t5 managing to do anything properly, let alone match people and fingerprints accuately?

No ink (thank God!) ..... they have a small screen where you place your fingers (index fingers) and they match up your old travel records. It's easy and fast - JFK being the best, in terms of aware/educated officers and staff.
