Questions about Egypt with OAT?
Leaving for Egypt in a few days and will be returning on June 10.
If you are considering visiting Egypt, I'd be happy to answer questions. While the trip is fresh in my mind with all the experiences, please don't hesitate to write me at my email address. I'm not very good at posting after a trip but would be more than happy to help you select the tour that is best for you with my personal experiences.
I like fast paced tours and small groups and generally select OAT but some prefer slower paced tours. We just don't like being on a bus with 25-50 and after a few small group tours, we like them better!!!!
I will make every attempt to post a trip report after our return so I can share my experiences with everyone but if you have specific questions, here's my email

Sunshine: what an adventure living in Cairo. Just returned from visiting this most fascinating country yesterday so am quite jet lagged.
Amazing that you live in Cairo!
Thanks for all the postings. We learned so much that made our experiences more full and rewarding.

I lived in SEattle for 7 years (Queen Anne) before moving back to Atlanta.
I did the OAT Egypt/Jordan trip a few years back. It was phenomenal.
You had your trip months ago, so this is a late response, but I hope you had a fab trip.

I have friends who are leaving for an OAT trip to Egypt on Sunday. I was on OAT's Egypt trip in 2002. It was interesting to note that so many things that were included in our 2002 trip are now "optional" and have to be paid for separately. They've also cut things out of their Tanzania trip that used to be included (Arusha NP and Lake Manyara NP.) I think OAT is probably doing this to maintain their lower, advertised prices. As my friend said who's going to Egypt, they are looking more and more like their parent company, Grand Circle... too bad, as they once had a somewhat unique niche.

Everyone now in this 'depression' is trying to keep prices down - slashing prices even further. OAT still has the small groups and no big bus loads of tourists. Remember how long it takes to disembark 40 or 50 for potty breaks every two hours with other tour companies? We only started traveling with Grand Circle's OAT a year and a half ago, taken 6 international trips and have no regrets. We only are sorry we didn't find them earlier. You are right, many optionals use to be included. Hey, many don't have cash for leisure travel anymore especially if you were in the market. Don't worry.....remember everything is going to be FREE with Obama!

OAT started cutting things out of their trips before the Recession, trying to keep their prices within a certain range I would imagine. There's nothing wrong with that, but it does make the cost of the trip less transparent. They are still a good value, I believe, even more so with some of their recent price reductions. My friends on the Egypt trip enjoyed it, even though they had to pay extra for the options. I have another friend going to northern Tanzania with them later this year.
