Christmas in Morocco - any recommendations?
Hey folks!
I've recently booked a trip for my parents, my sister and my husband and I to Marrakech, Morocco for 3 nights from the 24th to the 27th December, this year.
Some of you might have read on other threads the sagas of first booking a trip to the Icehotel (which was scuppered by Air Scandinavia) and then booking a killer whale watching trip to Norway (which was scuppered by Air Scandinavia) so I'm really hoping that we're third time lucky with this and that everything works out!
The trip came about directly as a result of my dad's stay in hospital last year when he was extremely ill with malaria - we were originally going to go away last Christmas but couldn't get it organised in time. Although he's absolutely recovered (and back to travelling around the world, somewhere exciting every month or so) I do want to make this family trip something special to celebrate his (and everyone else's) good health.
We're not religious, so we're quite happy being in a non-Christian country over the Christmas holiday. That said, we've always been quite happy to take on the non-religious part of the festivities and will probably take some small gifts to exchange on the day.
Does anyone have any ideas on things we can do (both ones that need booking in advance and ones that don't) whilst we're there?
What about restaurant recommendations?
Excursions, places to visit, things to try?
We're staying in the Riad Si Said - since there are sooooo many riads in Marrakech I wanted to be sure that I booked one that would live up to our hopes and expectations. As most of those recommended here on Fodors and in various travel articles I'd saved over the years were all full (mega high season) I resorted to using tripadvisor and working through the riads from most popular (in terms of feedback scores) down. Riad Si Said didn't have lots and lots of reviews but all those it had were very good. So I hope it's special.
Here is their website: www.riad-sisaid.com - they don't have a map with their location in the medina on it so if anyone is familiar with the medina and can indicate on an online medina map where they are, I'd be grateful.
THANKS!

It's a 3.5 hour flight, Dennis so a fairly short hop for us!
I've been to Morocco once before - I was 19, travelling on my own but booked into a group tour. Had a lot of fun!
My parents have been before too, or at least, I'm sure my dad has. Mum hasn't the patience to travel quite as often as he does now they are retired so she doesn't do ALL the trips. So he might have done that one without her, I can't recall.
My hub and my sis haven't been before.
