Portland Outdoor Store

Downtown

If you want real-deal western gear—saddles, Stetsons, boots, and shirts—head to this old-school, no-nonsense store which stubbornly resists all that is trendy, both in clothes and decor. The red neon sign, depicting a cowboy riding a bucking horse, is a Downtown icon.

Portland Pendleton Shop

Downtown

This store stocks clothing by the famous local apparel maker, whose woolen mills were established in 1863 and continue to produce sturdy, brightly patterned blankets and rugs as well as men's and women's shirts, sweaters, outerwear, and gear that's as popular with octogenarians as with twentysomethings.

Potted

Atwater Village

There’s something comforting about Potted, almost as if you’ve just walked into your parents’ sunroom or a woodland fairy’s home. This is a garden full of colors, nooks, and crannies to tuck yourself into, and there are treasures of the botanic kind waiting to be discovered. Primark

This multi-floor fast-fashion U.K.-based department store is just the place to supplement your wardrobe without putting a dent in your spending money. Clothing (for men, women, and kids), cosmetics, luggage, home goods, shoes, and more are available.

The Primary Essentials

With minimalist product displays, this design-forward boutique in a renovated loft feels more like an elegant gallery than a home decor store. The carefully curated products are equally elegant, including textiles by artisans in Spain, candles from Japan, and ceramics handcrafted right in Brooklyn. Founded by former stylist Lauren Snyder, it carries products from other designers found nowhere else in New York.

Prince Kuhio Plaza

The Big Island's most comprehensive mall has indoor shopping, entertainment (a multiplex), and dining, including KFC, Hot Dog on a Stick, Cinnabon, Genki Sushi, IHOP, and Maui Tacos. The kids might like the arcade (near the food court), while you enjoy the stores, anchored by Macy's and Old Navy.

Princeville Shopping Center

The big draws at this small center are a full-service grocery store and a hardware store, but there's also the North Shore General Store (famed for its burgers and other food to-go), a fun toy store, a bar, a mailing service, a nice sandal boutique, women's clothing, and an ice cream shop. This is also the last stop for gas and banking when you're heading west along the North Shore.

Prize

In the 2nd Street shopping district, Prize has branded itself as “an urban department store” where you’ll find women's clothing and menswear, ultra-modern furniture, and super-chic coffee table books. Although you likely wouldn’t trade a trip to Prize for one to, say, Texas-grown Neiman Marcus for basics, the store has boutique-like finds that, we'll say it, take the prize.

Prospect Harbor Soap Co. at HarborGirl Emporium

Sold at retailers throughout New England and made at the owner's home in Prospect Harbor, these paraben- and sulfate-free all-natural soaps and skin-care products fill two display areas at HarborGirl Emporium, housed in an 1800s barn and stocked with kitchen items, children's toys, stationery goods, holiday decor, and more. Along with about a dozen varieties of avocado oil soap, such as Gardener's with lemon or cranberry, the brand's many offerings include wild blueberry shea butter/jojoba lotion and sea salt scrub and its men's Vagabond line.
