The Next Great Indie Music Festival Is So Not Where You’d Expect

Want to avoid the throngs of festival influencers? Be sure to pack a lunch.

When even Burning Man is overrun with influencers, it’s fair to wonder: Are there any festival experiences that haven’t been Coachellafied? The short answer? Yes. The long one? To get to a festival this underground, you’re going to have to want it.

Marfa is more Solange than Beyoncé (although both have visited); Marfa Myths more Deerhunter video than Fyre Festival promo.

Marfa, Texas is a cooler-than-thou, deep-desert town famous for eerie, floating ghost lights, Amazon series I Love Dick, and it’s almost mystical status as one of the best places on earth for creating new art and artists. But, unless you’ve been to Marfa, you’ve never holed up at the glamorous Mediterranean hotel where Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, and James Dean bedded down while filming the 1956 film Giant or spent the night in an air-conditioned teepee (check out other hotel, RV & AirBnB accommodations, or general FAQs here).

It all takes place April 25-28, 2019. Head to Marfa Myths for the full to see the full lineup and get your tickets. Proceeds go to Texas RioGrande Legal Aid and not to the proliferation of the holographic hair bun or problematic headdress industries.
