3 Best Hotels in Bucks County, Pennsylvania

Background Illustration for Hotels

Bucks County has relatively limited lodging options for families; larger inns, hotels and motels are the best bets. There are numerous choices for couples: accommodations ranging from modest to elegant can be found in historic inns, small hotels, and B&Bs. Most hostelries include breakfast in their rates. Reserve early—as much as three months ahead for summer and fall weekends. Many accommodations require a two-night minimum stay on weekends and a three-night minimum on holiday weekends. Many inns prohibit or restrict smoking. Because some inns are historic homes furnished with fine antiques, the owners may not allow children or may have age restrictions.

Bucks County Bed & Breakfast Association of Pennsylvania represents about 25 inns within Bucks County and Hunterdon County, New Jersey.

Ghost Light Inn

$$$$ | 50 S. Main St., New Hope, PA, 18938, USA

By the river in the heart of town, this luxe rustic-chic boutique hotel notches up New Hope's lodging scene with modern rooms and a restaurant and bar (Stella) overlooking the water. Earthen-tone neutrals and textured finishes—a wood-lined wall, patterned carpet, metal and leather furnishings—and large bathrooms with double sinks and pebble tile in the showers make the inn an escape from New Hope's bustle but still relate to the river location. A refrigerator, coffeemaker, robes and slippers, and Italian linens are some amenities; a few rooms have Juliet balconies. Each room has a ghost light, referring to the theatrical tradition of leaving a pole with a single lightbulb on when a theater is not occupied, for safety and also so that any ghosts can perform. A sister property a block away, the Carriage House, has two rooms and a suite; you check in at the Ghost Light if you stay there.

Pros

  • Spectacular Delaware River views from restaurant and many rooms
  • Steps from the Bucks County Playhouse via riverfront promenade
  • Gorgeous rooms with plenty of amenities

Cons

  • Events in the ballroom may disturb a quiet mood
  • River views are costly
  • Breakfast is Continental and is not included on weekends

River House at Odette's

$$$$ | 274 S. River Rd., New Hope, PA, 18938, USA

The luxurious, built-from-scratch River House raised the bar for New Hope lodgings, including price-wise, filling a storied New Hope site (Chez Odette, Odette Myrtil's cabaret; later Odette's restaurant) by the Delaware Canal and the Delaware River and offering heart-lifting river views along with lovely rooms. The plush, modern guest rooms are individually decorated using six color palettes, and they include original art, upholstered headboards, Frette sheets, and colorful accent pillows; bathrooms are spalike but do not have tubs. Balconies in many are a plus. There's a piano bar by a stone fireplace, and the sleek Odette's restaurant focuses on seafood and steak. Alfresco dining in the restaurant is available in season, but the top-level ROOF bar is for hotel guests and members only. The hotel includes ample spaces for parties, weddings, and meetings, which may affect the experience of guests not involved in these functions. Parking for guests is $20 a night.

Pros

  • Riverside location half a mile from the heart of New Hope
  • Chic guest rooms and suites, some with balconies, can be cheaper midweek
  • Attractive restaurant and piano lounge (music some nights)

Cons

  • No exercise room (free bikes are available)
  • Rooftop bar open only to hotel guests and members
  • Some guests say meetings and weddings affect service
