Once the home of playwright George S. Kaufman, this remarkable country retreat has a staff that takes a devilish delight in the details. Suites, all named for Kaufman works, are exquisitely furnished with pieces like the ornate carved East Asian canopy bed in the Seven Lively Arts Suite. The 19th-century barn has original touches like wood beams and ladders, while the Manor House, whose original section dates to 1740, features exposed stone walls. Tastefully chosen art and crafts—Mercer tiles, stained glass, luscious textiles, and hand-painted murals—are sprinkled throughout. Pleasing the senses doesn't stop with the eye, however. Wine and cheese are delivered to your door when you arrive, gas fireplaces and whirlpool tubs keep you feeling toasty warm, and the on-site spa (which uses all-natural, organic products) lets you pamper yourself. A delicious breakfast is served in the glass-walled conservatory dining room, where you can also enjoy BYO dinner from Wednesday to Saturday (and brunch on weekends).

Past a pasture of grazing and bleating sheep and goats, this handsome taupe manor house dating to 1790 is now a country B&B. Ornate moldings and four-poster beds satisfy those who love vintage, while flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi attract those who can't leave modern life behind. Fun details include window sashes transformed into mirrors. In addition to the main house, you can stay in the charming Bo Peep's Hideaway, which was converted from feed storage, or Shepherd's Cottage, with pale wood paneling, a potbellied stove, kitchenette, whirlpool tub, and a glass door that the sheep press their noses to. Breakfast includes a cold buffet and a choice of three hot items made to order, including the popular blueberry corn pancakes. The family that owns the farm also owns the Riegelsville Inn, which provides catering for events at the B&B.

Each room has a ghost light, referring to the theatrical tradition of leaving a pole with a single lightbulb on when a theater is not occupied, for safety and also so that any ghosts can perform. The spirited British innkeeper, Lorna Woodson, watches over Hargrave House like someone who helped re-create it, because she did. A true bed-and-breakfast in the center of town, the inn is named for stonemason Thomas Hargrave, who owned the home in the mid-19th century, but the original section, in which you'll find the cozy Hargrave House Suite, dates to around 1814. The other guest rooms, which are larger, are in a new annex; most have fireplaces and whirlpool tubs. Feather beds and 600-thread-count linens show the innkeeper's attention to detail, as do her cooked-to-order full breakfasts, prepared at a time of each guest's choosing (and accommodating dietary constraints). Don't be surprised if she offers you a glass of sherry in winter to go with some afternoon nibbles.

South of New Hope near the road leading to Bowman's Tower, this modern interpretation of country charm was built in the 1970s as a private home and converted to a high-end B&B in the mid-2000s, with individually decorated, traditionally furnished rooms with plenty of amenities such as gas fireplaces as well as add-ons like various types of in-room massage. Other modern comforts include two-person jetted tubs in rooms and a heated conservatory. Suites have unique features such as verandas or steam showers. Gaze over the groomed rolling grounds from the poolside patio or gather eggs for the kitchen from the resident chickens. The multicourse breakfast has several options like a soufflé omelet but always features the inn's full English breakfast, which comprises seven different breakfast items.

Established in 1727, the Logan once accommodated passengers riding the ferry to Lambertville, and today the thoroughly modern inn has updated older rooms and a wing of rooms added in 2021, as well as expanded dining and drinking areas that appeal to today's upscale visitors. George Washington is said to have stayed here at least five times—it's hard to imagine what he would think of the people eating on the expansive patio and the shoppers who stroll past this inn smack-dab in the busiest part of town. The 22 newer rooms in the annex use pops of color and a mix of retro and modern accent pieces; the 16 rooms in the historic building are less expensive, generally a bit smaller, and more traditionally decorated. Some rooms have river views. Besides the Landmark Tavern, a large modern American restaurant with windows overlooking Main Street, the inn has a bar (Good + Plenty) and the plush, speakeasy-like Whiskey Lounge. Also part of the Logan Inn campus is the next-door Mansion Inn, in a renovated Victorian building, with eight rooms open only on weekends (at this writing) and Anzu Social (an Asian restaurant); a spa is scheduled to open in mid-2026. 

Like most old Bucks County farmhouses (the oldest part of the house dates to 1730), this one has been expanded over the years. Curl up by the Mercer-tile fireplace in the library, pay a visit to the Thoroughbreds that gallop nearby (there are even facilities to board your horse), or gaze at the creek and pond from the glass-walled dining room. Guest rooms are named for presidents. In the George Washington Suite, the master bedroom has stone walls and a beam ceiling. The second bedroom, which is great for children, has a bed tucked in an alcove, which is painted to look like a four-poster bed.

The luxurious, built-from-scratch River House raised the bar for New Hope lodgings, including price-wise, filling a storied New Hope site (Chez Odette, Odette Myrtil's cabaret; later Odette's restaurant) by the Delaware Canal and the Delaware River and offering heart-lifting river views along with lovely rooms. The plush, modern guest rooms are individually decorated using six color palettes, and they include original art, upholstered headboards, Frette sheets, and colorful accent pillows; bathrooms are spalike but do not have tubs. Balconies in many are a plus. There's a piano bar by a stone fireplace, and the sleek Odette's restaurant focuses on seafood and steak. Alfresco dining in the restaurant is available in season, but the top-level ROOF bar is for hotel guests and members only. The hotel includes ample spaces for parties, weddings, and meetings, which may affect the experience of guests not involved in these functions. Parking for guests is $20 a night.
