Bowman's Tavern

One of the pianos that graced the original Odette's, the long-closed cabaret that was a New Hope institution, now resides at this casual, quintessential river tavern (think cozy rooms with dark wood tables and booths) halfway between New Hope and Washington's Crossing. The bar area's six-nights-a-week entertainment, with music from standards to jazz to country, is popular and gay-friendly.  Its hearty American fare has a strong following, too, for lunch and dinner.

Havana

A well-worn New Hope fixture, this casual bar and restaurant with tropical-theme decor and some outdoor seating often has karaoke on Monday and live music from jazz to rock many nights (tribute and cover bands are a specialty on weekends); there are also DJs. Check the website for ticketed events. The list of mojitos and martinis is long, and beer and wine choices are ample, but the food gets mixed reviews.

John & Peter's

Since 1972, this friendly dive bar has featured live, original music nightly, from folk to funk. All kinds of people come to hear jazz musicians, singer-songwriters, and rockers take the stage, as well as the not-yet-famous on Monday's open-mic night. Wednesday's invitational jam with local musicians is also popular. The beer list is long, and the bar food includes tater tots, burgers and fries, and quesadillas.

Odette's Lounge at River House

Part of the fancy River House hotel, this piano lounge a few steps down from Odette's restaurant has chairs, tables, and stools, as well as a massive stone fireplace and slate floors. Local musicians play Thursday through Saturday 7–10 pm, a relaxing accompaniment to wine or a cocktail and light fare, perhaps before or after dinner. Another option is the (music-less) happy hour at the bar Monday through Thursday 4–6 pm, where drinks are cheaper and you can order light bites. Parking is tight, and although it's free Monday to Thursday, from Friday to Sunday it's $5 if you leave before 6 pm, $10 after.

Puck

At Puck, bands play in the 120-seat indoor music venue, and eaters and drinkers sit in the bar or out on the patio in season.
