Recently rebranded as part of Hilton's boutique Curio Collection, this art-driven hotel draws creatives and tech workers with its effortlessly chic design, central location, and rooftop bar. Tolovana Inn

$ | 3400 S. Hemlock St., Cannon Beach, OR, 97145, USA

Set on the beach at the quieter southern end of town, the large, rambling Tolovana Inn is one of the best values in this tony seaside community, especially considering that most rooms enjoy partial or full views of the Pacific. Tommy Bahama Miramonte Resort & Spa

$$$ | 45000 Indian Wells La., Indian Wells, CA, 92210, USA

It became the first Tommy Bahama resort in late 2023, and with the change came public spaces, guest quarters, and amenities that were refreshed and reimagined to reflect the laidback resort wear and island lifestyle brand for which it is named. The setting remains intimate however, with 11 acres of lush gardens and fruit/olive groves dotted with fire pits, seating areas, and two-story bougainvillea-covered bungalow buildings containing comfortable guest rooms. The spa is one of the desert's best.

Cons

  • Not quite as many kid-centered activities as its competitors
  • Limited on-site resort facilities

TradeWinds Island Grand Resort

$$$ | 5500 Gulf Blvd., FL, 33706, USA

The only resort on the beach with its own fireworks display, the island-chic TradeWinds is also very pet-friendly—in addition to a play area and a room-service menu for dogs and cats, there's an entire building with rooms reserved for those traveling with pets. Those with children in tow will appreciate such younger-set activities as swimming lessons or digging for sharks' teeth with the notorious pirate, Captain Redbeard. Standard rooms have a wet bar with a microwave and mini-refrigerator; many rooms have beach views, though you may have to crane your neck (to avoid having to do so, opt for a Gulf-front suite with a balcony).

Travelodge by Wyndham

$ | 409 S.E. 1st Ave., Florida City, FL, 33034, USA

Treasure Island—TI Las Vegas Hotel & Casino

$ | 3300 Las Vegas Blvd. S, Las Vegas, NV, 89109, USA

Whether you call it Treasure Island or TI, what sets this resort apart is a dash of elegance mixed with a decidedly unpretentious vibe and reasonably priced dining options. Whereas other properties boast of a branch of Tiffany's, this one features a CVS and a vaping store (those aren't the only stores, but you get the picture). Whereas others feature sky-high-priced restaurants, Gilley's BBQ anchors the scene here. This more inviting approach for a modern Strip property is the product of owner Phil Ruffin's plan to make the place more accessible to all. Thankfully, accommodations are still top-notch. Mystère, the Strip's first Cirque du Soleil show, is still going strong here, and the Cove Bar & Arcade is family-friendly, despite the name. T.I. is a short walk from The Venetian, Wynn, and Fashion Show Mall.

Pros

  • Fairly modest price point
  • Convenient location
  • Giant CVS on-site

Cons

  • No real nightlife or stand-out amenities

The Tremont House Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

$$$$ | 2300 Ship's Mechanic Row, Galveston, TX, 77550, USA

Now part of Marriott's Tribute Portfolio, this upscale historic hotel is right downtown, the closest full-service lodging to the port. The hotel's four-story atrium lobby, with ironwork balconies and full-size palm trees, showcases an 1872 hand-carved rosewood bar in what was once a busy dry-goods warehouse. This actually is a historic place: Republic of Texas president Sam Houston presented his last speech at this hotel, both Confederate and Union soldiers bunked here, and Great Storm victims took refuge under this roof. Rooms have high ceilings and 11-foot windows. Rooms have been modernized but still have wood floors, and some have exposed brick. It's the closest full-service lodging to the port, great for meetings and events, and just a short walk from shopping on the Strand.

Pros

Tropicana Casino

$ | Brighton Ave. and Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ, 08401, USA

Potted palm trees line the corridors, fountains bubble, soft beiges and yellows bathe the walls. You've traveled back to pre-Castro Cuba, or perhaps Miami, anywhere with a Caribbean breeze. That's the idea at least. With the addition of "The Quarter" entertainment complex, the Tropicana has fully embraced its tropical theme. Rooms are spread throughout four towers. In the West Tower, they're more modern and wear blue and white stripes, while in the Havana and North towers they're clothed in wallpaper and plaids. Suites feature a more subdued palette and expansive ocean views. The atmosphere here is slightly frantic and sometimes chaotic, but the hotel offers plenty of escapes from the busy casino scene, including skincare treatments, oxygen facials, and therapeutic couples massages at the Bluemercury Spa.
