Fodor's Expert Review Top of Waikiki
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Top of Waikiki, which opened in 1965, remains one of the best spots in town to take in Honolulu's stunning panorama. Lance Kosaka, who was executive chef at Alan Wong's Pineapple Room, turns out contemporary American dishes with island flavor, and his menu includes seafood dishes such as garlic shrimp, scallops, and poke—as well as beet, avocado, and goat cheese salad, and a selection of steaks that bring guests back again and again. To get a sunset view, grab dinner around 5–6 pm, or take a seat at the bar in the center of the restaurant for happy hour–priced cocktails and appetizers.
A full rotation takes about one hour, and can be a problem for those who get squeamish with motion sickness.
For a more casual and hip experience, check out the Sky Bar one floor below. You can get the same views from the 5,000 square-foot wraparound lanai without the rotating. Quick bites, creative cocktails, and a happening scene make it a nice spot for locals and visitors alike.
