Enjoy the sunset views over the yacht harbor as you take in live music nightly while sipping a signature "Guy-Tai" cocktail at this Waikiki landmark. The restaurant opened in 1969, and the menu retains the midcentury notion of "fine dining"—oysters Rockefeller, shrimp cocktail, and steaks (from a garlicky tenderloin to a wagyu New York strip), along with island nods such as ahi wontons, poke, and macadamia-nut-crusted mahimahi. Regulars perch at the bar, while in the dining room local families, gangs of Japanese tourists, and aging Don Drapers feast amid the dark, cork-lined walls. Owner Joey Cabell, a surf-world legend and one-time competitive skier, founded the Chart House chain in 1962 in Aspen, Colorado; he sold his interest in the business 10 years later, hanging on to the Honolulu location. Try to nab a table on the lanai—but you need to book well in advance to get one.
