Victorian District and Eastside
Built after the Civil War, the Victorian District and Eastside neighborhoods evolved from General Oglethorpe's antebellum layout of centralized squares at what was then the edge of the city. Allot a half-day's walk from the middle of Forsyth Park to take in its unique architectural touches, sidewalk cafés, and lesser-known historic sights.
Bordered by Gwinnett, Abercorn, 31st Street, and MLK Jr. Blvd., the Victorian District and the Eastside neighborhoods were Savannah’s first suburbs built to accommodate streetcars with the picturesque Forsyth Park at their heart. This is where you'll find blocks of gorgeous, restored homes in a rainbow of colors and the Saturday morning Farmers Market. Farther east toward East Broad Street, the King-Tisdell Cottage and the Black Holocaust Memorial continue the story of Savannah's African American heritage.
