Fodor's Expert Review Perth International Arts Festival (PIAF)
If you can, time your trip to attend this energetic, big-name summer festival that sees the city come alive with open air music, fireworks spectaculars, indigenous performances, and world-famous artists. PIAF is held February and March in venues throughout the city, and its more highbrow shows are tempered with the raucousness of the Perth Fringe World Festival, which runs in January and February. While most shows for both festivals are ticketed, there are also plenty of free outdoor performances. PIAF is Australia's oldest and biggest annual arts festival, running for more than 50 years. As part of the festival, the Lotterywest Festival Films screens films outdoors at The University of Western Australia's beautiful Somerville Auditorium from November to April.
