Concepción de Ataco is located in the lush mountains of El Salvador, surrounded by coffee farms. The town is small and has a few cobblestone streets, some cafés and restaurants, and a lovely boutique hotel. However, what really makes this town stand out is the street art: Almost every building in this little town is covered with a colorful mural.
The town didn’t always look like this, though. Years ago, two artists from San Salvador moved here to open a coffee shop and crafts store called Axul. They decided to paint a colorful cat-themed mural on the outside of the shop to draw people in. The quirky cats inspired the artists and townspeople to paint more buildings. Now, there’s a mural on every street and the town has turned into a giant kaleidoscope of colors.
