Zydeco Music in New Orleans

We have a music festival here in Toronto and a zydeco band was featured last night. Loved the music, and since we're going to New Orleans in October, I wonder if anyone has some recommendations for zydeco there. We're only in town for 3 nights, so want to make the most of our time there! Thanks.

Rock N Bowl. Zydeco music at least one night a week. Dancing in the lanes. Think it is actually MidCity Lanes or something like that. What a crazy place. You will love it. LMF

Just walk around the French Quarter. You'll hear it blasting from the souvenir shops, beckoning you to come on in!

Rock n bowl at mid city lanes is great! Tipitina's is also great, and is a bigger showcase club (I think they have a smaller venue in the quarter). Good idea to check event listings to see what type of bands are playing around town. Try nola.com or satchmo.com to look up clubs by type of music. It's hard to beat zydeco for dancing!

If you get a chance to see Beau Jocque, don't miss it. He is absolutely incredible. Rosie Ledet is another one. The music scene in NO is magnificent.

Thanks for the ideas. We may end up at Tipitinas - rock and bowl is on Thursdays (I think) so won't work out for us. I'm really looking forward to the trip!

I fully understand how you can get hooked on this music. When I was in New Orleans in 2000, I bought a zydeco CD called Cajun Swamp. I liked it so much that I played it on the CD player in my car for over a year, until the heat warped it. My kids still laugh about my CD with the alligator on the cover.
