Zion to Torrey

Will be staying at Zion and then planning on driving directly to Skyridge B&B in Torey without stopping at Bryce. (Stayed at Rubies and saw Bryce a few years ago, and want to spend more time stopping on Route 12 and at Capital Reef this trip).

Do not remember how long of a drive it is from Zion to Torey. Anyone have any thoughts on stopping or driving staight to Torey?

Current Game Plan is 3 nights at Zion, 2 at Torey, 3 at Moab, and 1 at Grand Junction (early morning flight home)

You can do it. Just get an early start out of Zion to avoid the traffic coming up route 9 from Zion to Mt. Carmel Junction. The road is narrow and twisting for about 25 miles or so. If there is a slow vehicle, you will probably be stuck behind it for quite a few miles. It is about 83 miles from Zion to the turn for Bryce off of Utah 12 near Ruby's establishment. It is about 110 miles more from there to Torrey. So you are talking less than 200 miles total, unless you detour to see something. At a conservative 40 mph, you can make it in 5 hours.

I do suggest stopping at the Anasazi state park. It is fairly small, but when I was there, the pottery samples were interesting. More research has been done and the exhibits may (hopefully) have grown larger.

From Zion to Torrey is very do-able with enought time to make many stops along the way. We do this route all the time in one day in our motorhome. We usually find a spot for a picnic lunch to enjoy the views. I can't say as I've ever timed us because we do tend to make many stops. I think if you were to just drive straight though it would take about 5 hours.

Just remember as you leave Zion after the tunnel is the checker board mesa area of Zion and you might want to plan a quick stop in the area.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Anasazi State Park. We stopped there on our last trip and I agree with you that it is worth the stop.

I also forgot about the checker board mesa, and I will want to stop there.

You both seem knowledgeable with the area. Do you have any recommendations on a place to stop for lunch?

I would recommend taking a picnic lunch and eating at one of the scenic overlooks.
