Never have been to Las Vegas before but now going for a conference and I have been finding extremely good hotel rates--ranging from $24 at Circus Circus to about $70 at MGM (MGM includes buffet meals--and may be the best assuming that I can stand B, L and D every day at buffet). Look at slickdeals.net and search "las vegas Promotions" for some of the listings but also saw them at the main sites.

Zion and Bryce canyon are beautiful and otherworldly. Totally worth the visit. A lot of the drive there reminded me of a faraway planet. The kids will probably love it (or be totally bored?).

But about the heat in Utah in the summer - beware.

I'm from Southern California and am used to hot, dry weather. I lived in Massachusetts for a couple of years and took a road trip to So Cal and back one summer with my husband and stopped at Zion and Bryce Canyon in June. I got a bit sick from the heat on an easy hike on which I drank plenty of water.

I was in good shape, used to heat and used to walking everywhere, but with the heat you have to be careful.

Hope you have a great time! Bring hats, water, and go slow. You'll see some crazy rock formations.
