Joanel,
We just stayed at both Zion Lodge & Bryce Canyon Lodge. There are motel-type rooms and cabins at each. We stayed in motel, because cabins only accomodate 4 people (we have 3 children). IMO staying in the parks is the way to go. Cabins looked OK - near lodges in both parks. Someday I hope to try them

If possible , stay at Zion Lodge cabins. It puts you in the heart of the park, and when you leave your front door and look straight up at the towering formations, it takes your breath away. I have also stayed at Zion, although in a Lodge room, and it really adds to the Park experience. I highly recommend them!

Last December, we stayed in one of the cabins at Zion. It was still dark when we sat down in the Lodge for breakfast the next morning. While there, the morning sun hit the top of the highest peak, and gradually, the mountains came into view. Stay in one of the cabins--and don't oversleep! Got a pic of that sunlit peak top at http://community.webshots.com/user/bookhall in the Zion album.

The Zion cabins are much nicer than the lodge (actually motel rooms as there are no rooms in the main lodge).
At Bryce we got the last two rooms available once -- one was a cabin and was great!! The other was one of the only three or four rooms in the main lodge. Although the room was huge, actually almost a two room apartment, it was all white, and was furnished like a cheap Florida condo -- it made no sense to me. I'd go for one of the rustic cabins with fireplace anyday!!!

I have stayed in the Bryce cabins. They certainly weren't luxurious, but they had gas fireplaces, were very cozy, and were located not far from the rim. I have heard the sunrise view from the rim is spectacular...but I was unable to see anything due to blizzards (this was in April or May a few years ago). Nevertheless, it was a great trip.

I was unable to get a cabin at Zion - I think they're in pretty high demand! I stayed at the Cliffrose Lodge right outside the park...I highly recommend it for its beautiful grounds and views, if you're unable to secure anything in the park.

We loved the cabins at both Zion and Bryce (they were quite similar). I called back a couple times to change from my original motel room reservation. But once we got there, I have to say (though I didn't see INSIDE) there didn't appear to be much difference to me. The motel rooms were in smallish log building also, had porch/balcony, etc. Didn't look like sterile motel 6 to me. Location seemed about as good to me too. If you've got some time before your trip do call back now and again and see if date/room you want has opened up. It does happen

We just stayed at the Bryce Lodge last week and we also stayed at Ruby (about a mile away) the day before. It was a little more expensive staying at the motel at Bryce, but it was more convenient. Ruby's rooms are nothing too special. Stay at Bryce, it's only a short walk to the edge.
