Ziggy's Conch in Islamorada - is it still open and, if so, how is it?

Ziggy's reopened recently after being closed for a while. Jim "Mad Dog" Mandich (ex-Miami Dolphin from the 1972 perfect season team) is now a co-owner and the new name is "Ziggy and Mad Dog's". I have not been in there, but from what I have heard the place is a little higher quality than it was, but more of a steakhouse that serves some seafood rather than a seafood restaurant that serves some steaks. So while the place is worth a try for its own sake, if you loved the "Old" Ziggy's you might be disapointed.

Hmmm, I havn't heard, but FYI it is illegal to harvest queen conch in Florida, so all conch you get served in Florida comes from somewhere in the Caribbean and probably arrives frozen in Miami before shipped to seafood dealers......
