Anne, remember, what happens in St. Louis STAYS in St. Louis.

GTG in San Miguel? We are THERE!! Are you organizing this mikemo? Don't you have a house there? We love San Miguel! Pull this off and I promise to buy everyone at least one round of margaritas, and maybe even uno mas.

I will post later today when I have some additional photos from Betsy & Mark up on the worldisround site.

Aloha Gang!
The event was wonderful but temepered by the fact that once we got home yesterday afternoon, I received news that one of my best friends and business mentor had died on T'giving Day at his home in Washington.

He was diagnosed with cancer about 2 months ago. Never said a word.

They tried chemo but the cancer was too far along. He was lucky enuff to retire at 52 and enjoyed a lot of travel over his last 11 yrs. 63 is way too young.#39;(

If it wasn't for him I'd probably wouldn't have one nickle to my name and would have to work until I was 67 to retire.
All that and computer probs still!

Having said that, I guess it's true that when God closes one door He opens a window because we made some fantastic new friends on this T'giving/GTG trip as well as seeing the old familiar FFF faces again.

The "Y'ville Newbies"!!!

If the tables weren't so darn high, we should have had all the newbies stand on them and sing their alma maters!

As a revu:
Love the pics! Yet another reason to love Marliyn even more! And Phil Flash too, of course.

Kir and Albert-How could you keep those heavy coats on in such warm weather?

B'man-I just got to taste 1 of your bottles so I guess you'll have to send R5 more!
I'm really suprised all 3 bottles made it to the GTG after being stored in the R5 household.

LoveItaly-While I appreciated your gift, I really don't remember much after drinking it!
Maybe we can have a GTG at The Jelly Belly Factory soon?

Faina-The only change of life I'd go thru right now is leaving Mrs Kal for you!

Betsy-I finally got to see "The Pin"! Is Mark always that funny or was I that drunk?

EasyT-PJs? PJs? What PJs?:-"

Gyp'lou-Thanks. I try not to take anything seriously other than my relationship with "the long suffering Mrs Kal". Especially now.

PamSF-"Chic is too hard"? You loooooked mahhhhvelous, dahlinnnnng. Peg, too.

Makai-Chicago is a half way point. We may be there for the Chicago Marathon in October, sooooo.... :-?

Joan-yer makin me blush. And that's hard to do!

ncgrrl-Yes. It's my golfing hat. It says "outpatient" on the back.

The other hat was my "Stone Drunk". About 30lbs and 10 yrs ago, while staying in Sparks Nv during the Best of the West BBQ Fest, I swam the length of the pool at The Nugget underwater and came up near some kids who asked me "Hey Mister...are you Stone Cold Steve Austin?" (the pro 'rassler).
I told them no. I was his brother Stone Drunk.
My baseball buddies bought me that hat after hearing that story.

GoTravel- Let's seeee....Ball hat, Man bag, Hawaiian Shirt, shorts, white sox and tennis shoes. Yep. I'm going to Europe!

JGray-You and your hubby had to be the sweetest couple there. We look forward to seeing you two attend next year.
You guys did have a lot of nerve coming in at that point in time!

Sorry we missed the Marshalls. Next year?
Janis, Gaulalalalalisa, kikahead and ado check in yet?

I made a connection at Hurley's so maybe next year we'll move up a block.
T'giving dinner at Hurley's was good again.

Lunch on Saturday with the R5s at Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen in St Helena was awesome! It was so good and we ate so much we had to cancel or early ressie's at Martini House.
Thanks for "dragging us " up there R5s!

We did a late, light dinner up at The Napa Valley Grille...some of the best "Fritto Misto alla Puttanesca" and a great cheese plate and a good bottle of red, of course.

How many more days until the next Y'ville GTG?

I'll send out some e-mails and some pics once I get my computer fixed, hopefully tomorrow.

Mucho mahalos!
Da Kals

Hola mis amigos,

It will probably be 10 months, but I'll host a GTG in San Miguel de Allende.
I own a house in the Centro, but got cold feet on a $500K. second house 'cuz it only had 3 Bed R. We really need four for the CH and GRCH.

The Burgess '98 Merlot was blown away by the '99 Ch l'Eglise (Cotes de Castillon). Vive la France.

Kal, my deepest sympathy for your loss of a friend and mentor. You're right, that's way too young. But I know you'll give him the best sendoff . God Bless.

Kal, my condolences regarding your best friend.

Congratulations on a wonderful GTG. Don't you just love it when a plan comes together!!!

Seems like the R5's are good/bad influence.

Here's hoping you can come to the NJ/NY GTG in May. Since you only got a taste of one, I'm saving some of my "special" stuff for you.

Cheers!!!

Kal, I am truly so sorry dear one. I have lost two dear and "near to the heart" friends in these last years.
Friends can be so loved they become like members of the family.

And a sudden loss it so hard to handle.

Be good to yourself this week and give yourself time and permission to mourn.

I am sure all of us send love and care to you. You are a fantastic person.
A ray of sunshine.

Kal,
Lo siento re: su amigo.

The horrors of biology continue to shock me after 40 years as a medical subspecialist.

Live long and well!

You know Kal,

I've been trying to figure how to wrap myself around a simple vacation condo in our horrid little island that rains all the time........Maybe I'm just trying to get on island the same time you and the truly hip Mrs.Kal are researching. This week I take auntie T the keeper of our dog Max, when we adventure......for her second lumpectomy......LIFE! You got to embrace it, cherish it, celebrate it!!! It is fragile. Breaking a rule [email protected]-------- Perhaps one day I will meet Mrs. Kal. I would like that. You? Well???? Time will tell.
Gyppielou,

Don't know how I missed this thread for the better part of 2 days??? Maybe residual effect of the Limoncello

Kal - sorry to hear about your friend's passing. All the sadder because it brought your fun holiday weekend to such a sad end.

Had a WONDERFUL time - I got to Y'ville very early and had spent most of my semi-meager shopping budget before the others arrived! The pre-dinner wine tasting and goodies from several Napa Valley restaurants were really terrific. The truffles from the French Laundry were one of my fave's -- but there was lots more like smoked Salmon, cioppino, and other yummy stuff.

Everyone was so friendly and it was so much fun sharing stories.

And then it was off to Dinner - and it was REALLY tasty - every course was better than the one before!

And so many wines and liqeurs were sent alonf the corkage fees were almost more than dinner -- well that is a SLIGHT exaggeration.

And then when we left the restaurant - all of Yountville's christmas lights had been switched on and it was like a fairyland! (AND afterwards I got to see the Kings beat the Lakers - an absolutely perfect weekend)

Thanks so much Kal and Mrs Kal -- you did a bang up job!

Oh Kal, so sorry to hear about your friend and mentor. Will be thinking about you in the days to come.

Gasp! Truffles from the French Laundry? How on earth did I miss those?

It was the best of times... What a congenial, convivial group! It was great to see old Fodor Friends and connect with new ones. There were definitely no strangers among us.

Thanks to all who helped make the GTG a success, especially our Organizer Extraordinaire, Kalissimo Kahuna. Yes, that was a Betty Ford Clinic hat; I think it said "Escapee" on the back. Many thanks to the very generous Budman for sending his great wines. Somehow the Bordeaux didn't reach my end of the table, but the Chateauneuf du Pape was outstanding. In fact, the empty bottle is situated in a place of honor next to the computer as I type. Marilyn, you and "Phil Flash" made us all look even better than we normally do in your great photos!

On to Saratoga in March and San Miguel de Allende after that. Wouldn't it be a kick if we pulled that one off!

Marilyn, those are great photos! What a wonderful lookin' group of people!!Thank you for posting the pix. I'd have been there from Oakland, but was out of town (in Hawaii). Since I don't want to miss the next get-together--can I add my name to a contact list?
