Yountville GTG Photos Online
There were 24 fodorites and friends, a most convivial crowd, and we did have a fabulous time, fabulous food, and fabulous wine.
See us living the good life at http://www.worldisround.com/articles/96984/index.html
Other attendees who shot digital photos, if you would like to email them to me, I will put them up on this site.
I think this is an annual event, so please plan to join us next year!

Faina, not sure what you mean. If you have photos to put up on the worldisround site, you'll have to send them to me and I'll have to put them up.
Or are you just having trouble on fodors?

Hello, everybody, now that this website seems to be working I'm taking the liberty of posting a report. Kal deserves it. You know I joke a lot here, but this time I am so very serious! Kal organized a great get-together. As sexist as it may sound who'd expect so much from a man
He was like a mother hen to all of us all day, talking to everybody, explaining everything, making everybody comfortable, looking for “Gualala” sweatshirt all over.
Kikahead, thank you so much for smooth ride! I know it was hard to stay away from plentiful wines, how did you do that
(trying in small installments)

We spent a couple of hours wandering about. There was a wine tasting for a fee, singing, juggling, costumes and what not! And of course shopping! The day was cool, sweaters and jackets, Kal was the bravest among us wearing a short sleeve shirt and shorts. Kal, are you going through the age change? Sorry couldn’t resist
Then the restaurant. And the wine. EasyTraveler brought huge bottles of Bastardo. She said it’s a name for a mixture of wines, not what I think it is! Budman, you wine went so fast, I got to try only Bordeaux (spelling?) and it was excellent! Thank you, but you owe me more for next GTG
Just kidding! LoveItaly, you limonchello was a great success. But the best I saved for the end, and don’t even know whom to thank! Please somebody tell me who brought that wonderful strawberry liquor!

Kal was sitting at the head of the table as The King. He had all rights to do so! And we had a bright dinner, by “bright” I mean all the flashlights, for a while everybody felt like celebrity chased down by paparazzis. We had more cameras per capita then even wine bottles
Oh, well, everything comes to an end... when we got out I followed the sound... someone was singing... not the “American Idol” quality, no! It was Kal. Mrs Kal used my friendly shoulder to lean on. Kal continued. This was when in my mind he got downgraded from “The King of Yountville GTG” to “The Royal Something”.
It was so great to meet everybody, to talk to everybody, to share a toast! Kal, from the bottom of my heart: THANK YOU! And Marilyn for keeping the list of our e-mails. And hope we’ll meet again. And again. And again. Now I know the purpose of that “again” in my nickname

Marylin, thank you, thank you, thank you for posting! Great pictures! And it reminded me of one more thing: Betsy wouldn't let me borrow her Fodor's pin even for 1 minute to take a picture with it
Bad, bad Betsy
And I agree, we had fabulous time!
When's the next one?
(and now my family wants me off-line)

Well said Faina.
The day prior to Thanksgiving,
I was talking with an aqauintance
about this GTG.
She thought it all sounded so
fun and asked me loads of questions about why Yountville, the location, the festival, the wine, and such, and then she asked "How did you all meet?"
:-?
Few here would not know just how her face looked back at me as I spoke my
own version of the story. We have all seen it at one time on our spouses, partners and friends.

If anyone would have told me 3 years
ago that I would be at yet another party with 24 friends, MOST of whom I had met in an online chat forum, I would have considered them quite in La-La Land.
Well...Welcome then, to the
Land of La's !

Marilyn and Phil Flash have done a brilliant job in telling the story
through their many talents with the camera. (Oh, the one with Dennis Franz
is quite clever! and he was such a nice guy...)
Thank You! Thank You!
Kal and Mrs. Kal did such a superb job of herding the cats, selecting the
Wine Garden & Unbelievable menu
selections, the fielding of wiley
e-mails, truly lovely friends who make hosting such a soiree look easy!
Kudos! Kudos!
Budman's Wine was excellent, there certainly wasn't enough of it and we have a little surprise for him finding it's way back to New Jersey!
Cin!Cin!
Easy Traveler is almost as tall as
her bottles of bastardo, how did she
cary them out of the store?
Oh my, I'll stop going on and on-just everyone was such a delight.
Thank You All !!!!!

Groan! For those of us who drank ourselves under the table and are just now picking ourselves up...groan!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
First to Kal, you really are the big Kahuna! Great job! Terrific food! And the best of company! And Mrs Kal is equally as wonderful!
Budman: Thanks for sending the bottles to help us wine-os along! I tasted only two and do agree that the Bordeaux was the better of the two - extremely smooth! You are a wine master!
LoveItaly: did you see the picts? Did you see who got the BIGGEST glass of limoncello? Thanks for a wonderful contribution! The limoncello was the best ending to a wonderful dinner!
Marilyn and Phil Flash: A million wonderfuls to see you again! Great, great pictures! Where are the pictures of THE DOG?????
(I've got a bunch more, but they have to be developed. Will you be able to transfer from disk?)
To all the "old" friends: Kir and Mr. Kir, Betsy and Mr Betsy, kikahead and Adora, and last but not least, Faina - soooo great to see you all again! What fine friends you are! >
<
To all the "new" friends: razzledazzle, gualalalisa, PamSF, and Janis - new hugs and greetings!
I'm told that close to the end of the evening, I volunteered my house for the next GTG! (What a great idea! Who put it into my head?) So, Marilyn, the ball's in your court - please tell us when we meet again!
Cheers to all! What a wonderful group of people! No words can describe how marvellous these folks are! Those of you who didn't show up - you'll just have to come next time and find out for yourselves!
easytraveler
(Faina: mea culpa - my wild strawberry liquor got to you?)
PS - Much as you all like the name of the wine to be "Bastardo", it's really "Nerello".
And they weren't magnums, they be jeraboims (sp?), which is equal to three ordinary bottles instead of two. Well, what do I know???

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Easy, did you just wake up?
You did indeed volunteer your house for the next GTG, and I believe you offered to put everyone up. There were witnesses.
We decided on March, and I am supposed to name the actual date. But I assume I have until the beginning of the year to pin it down?
PS It's "jereboam" I think, and there is something so festive about a bottle of wine large enough to sink a ship.

WOW!!! Sounds like you guys had a superb time. I am glad that I could contribute to the festivities -- thanks to your idea, R5. In hindsight, probably not a good idea sending homemade wine out to "wine country."
Marilyn - great pix. Nice job. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing a bunch of happy folks. I've penciled it in for next year.

Budman, I get the impression that you sending your wine out to the Yountville GTG was one of the highlights of the evening!!! Really! By the way, did I read somewhere you get your grapes from Lodi?
