Yosemite Lodging Advice
Does anyone have a suggestion of a place to stay near Mariposa Grove that wouldn't be too far away? The 2 nights before we will be at Yosemite Lodge, but they don't have rooms our last night. We have ruled out Wawona because the reviews made it sound unappealing. Because it is just for one night over Labor Day Weekend, the lodges near Fish Camp (Apple Tree Inn, etc) require a 3 night minimum. Tenaya Lodge sounds nice, but we need a few rooms so it would be costly. I know there are motels in Oakhurst. About how long would it take to get to Mariposa Grove from Oakhurst? Many thanks.

To clear up some possible confusion - the town of Mariposa is on Hwy 140, about 45 minutes west of the park entrance. Mariposa Grove is off Hwy 41 just inside the south entrance to the park. The town of Mariposa and Mariposa Grove are not near each other (hour and a half drive, longer if the park is crowded).
I have stayed at the Tenaya Lodge once about 4 years ago, and it was quite nice. It is on the pricey side.
If I remember correctly, from Mariposa Grove to Oakhurst is about 30 minutes.

Last September we stayed at Yosemite Lodge (which is like a motel). The location on the valley floor is extremely convenient. Our room was large, and there were several dining options. I would definitely recommend this place, especially if they have refurbished the rooms.
