Yosemite lodging?

We need lodging for 2 couples (Mother's Day or the following week-end) in the park. So far, the only thing available is the tent cabins, with NO bathrooms. Does anyone know of cabins/condos? Thanks.

While less desirable than staying on the valley floor, the Wawona area is very lovely and not too far a drive to the valley floor of Yosemite. You can rent a variety of cabins from The Redwoods at www.redwoodsinyosemite.com. We've rented cabins from them a few times and they are all different but well kept and managed. The most desirable ones are located closest to the river. You are also near the Wawona Hotel where you can take advantage of the restaurant and bar.

That should be a beautiful time of year in the park.

We stayed at Yosemite View Lodge, aobut 10 mins from the gate and then another 15 mins(?) to the valley. The entire drive is along the river so you get a great view along the way. It was really good. Pretty new too (about 3 years ago). Had a small kitchenette, pool, store and restaurant. We booked through Yosemite lodging. If you can, get one on the river. Beautiful view. I thought it was nicer than a lot of the lodging we saw in the park.

It's a real shame that you can't find anything acceptable in the valley. The whole experience is different if you stay outside. You'll miss the evening Ranger campfire and other activities.

We stayed at the Teyana more something like that which at the time was a Marriott. It's outside the gates but more upscale than what have been mentioned here.

Hopefully, you'll find something in the valley. It makes for a much more relaxed trip.

Vic is talking about the Tanaya Lodge outside the south gate in Fish Camp. It is nice. It's also near Wawona and the giant Sequoias.

It's not like they kick you out of the park at a certain time so you really can catch the ranger talks unless you need to hit the hay early.

When we stayed in a cabin in the Wawona area of the park there were ranger talks and night hikes available in that immediate area. Not exactly the same as being on the valley floor with El Capitan in view, but you are close enough to drive to the valley for the day/evening.

Rob, you must be right about the condos! The receptionist at 4 Seasons wasn't enthusiastic about the condos they rent. I did book a condo with Scenic Wonders, but after your suggestion, cancelled only two days later. They wanted to penalize me $67 for cancelling! I finally agreed to papy $25. What a rip off. Lisa's suggestion of Yosemite View Lodge is great and that's where we'll stay. Thanks for your help!

I also recommend the cabins at the Redwoods. Phone is 209-375-6666. They have cabins of all sizes for different groups. We did a weekend with 3 couples a few years ago so got the large cabin that would hold all of us. It was a great way to visit the park.

Has anyone stayed in the tents at Curry Village? We are considering doing that in June because that is all that is available in the park that is reasonably priced the week we will be there.

I've been told they are RUSTIC and you have to walk to a shared restroom.

Mary - I stayed at a cabin at Curry Village in 1994. It was adequate but the lines for the bathrooms were long and the showers were closed for cleaning periodically and therefore there were very long lines. The Curry Camp area was very busy - lots of people in a small area. But Yosemite was beautiful - if its the only way you can go - then do it.

We looked at the cabin tents and they were similar to tents I've stayed in on White Water rafting trips. They have cot type beds with bedding provided and canvas sides and a wooden floor. It's a place to sleep with lots of room for your stuff and much better than a tent.

Driving through Yosemite we saw some cabins right on the main road that were also right next to each other and about an hour from the most popular part of the park which is the valley. We had seen those same cabins advertised online for $200 something a night and as we drove by
we thought "thank GOODness we didn't book there"!!
