Yom Kippur

We will be in New York (Manhattan) on Yom Kippur (October 2).

Should we expect to find stores and restaurants open? What about subway and bus transportation -- will they be operating on normal weekday schedules?

Everything will be up and running pretty normally. I believe the schools will be closed though so venues that might attract kids might be busier while subways may be a bit less busy with a lot of people staying home from work.

As mclaurie says, eveyting will be running pretty normally. Keep in mind that on a normal Monday in New York, most museums are closed and most Broadway shows don't perform. If a restaurant has a closed day, it is probably a Monday--though most at this point in time don't have a closed day.

Agree that almost everyplace will be open (except kosher restaurants etc) and transit will be on a regular schedule but less crowded.

However schools are closed, kids are everywhere - and alternate side of the street parking rules are suspended as for all major religious holidays.

This is a good time to find theater seats.

Since the holiday begins Sunday evening, Sunday will be an excellent day for theatre, concert tickets.
