Pinstripesboy.... Sorry I can't answer your question on the YMCA, but there is a relatively new (2 years or so) youth hostel. We passed by is last year and it looked very nice..... You might want to check the wep page and see what you think. http://www.hichicago.org/

Young man - there's no need to feel down
I said - young man, pick yourself off the ground
I said - young man, 'cause your in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy

Young man - there's a place you can go
I said - young man, when you're short on your dough
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
They have everything for young men to enjoy.
You can hang out with all the boys.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
You can get yourself clean
You can have a good meal
You can do whatever you feel.

Young man - are you listening to me
I said - young man, what do you want to be
I said - young man, you can make real your dreams,
but you've got to know this one thing.

No man, does it all by himself
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf
And just go there, to the Y.M.C.A.
I'm sure they can help you today

Young Man, I was once in your shoes,
I said, I was down and out with the blues
I felt - No man cared if I were alive
I felt the whole world was so jive

That's when someone came up to me
and said young man take a walk up the street
There's a place there called the Y.M.C.A.
They can start you back on your way.

I'm not sure but I have never heard anyone recommend staying at a YMCA in Chicago. There are YMCA's in Chicago but they may not provide lodging.

In addition to the Youth Hostel referred to by vacationmom which is at the south end of the loop and close to a lot of attractions, there's also another one I've seen recommended up in Lincoln Park called Arlington House. It's $24 per night for a dorm bed, private room w/ shared facilities is $54

X - you've lost it.

Pinstripesboy, instead of the Y, go to priceline and get a cheap hotel room.

Check out biddingfortravel.com and betterbidding.com before you bid.

The 2.5* Tremont pops up on bidding for travel quite often at $45 per night, better location than hostel or Arlington House and a private room to boot.

From the Arlington House website:

From O'Hare Airport
Take the train (BLUE liine to Washington stop).
Transfer to the red line north to Fullerton St.
Walk EAST on Fullerton to Orchard. Then walk one block north to Arlington Pl., right to 616.
