Yellowstone Lodging

My husband and I are planning a trip to Wyoming during the summer months. A business associate recommended Lake Yellowstone Hotel. Is anyone familiar with this hotel? Is it a nice place to stay? Is it convenient to the park's main attractions? Thanks!

How long are you going to be in the park? Are you interested in seeing all of Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons?

We're spending 3 nights in Yellowstone, 4 nights at at dude ranch in dubois, and 3 nights in Jackson Hole. Did you have any suggestions? Thanks!

We had dinner at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel one night and it was very good but we did not stay there. I was very glad we stayed at the Old Faithful Inn. You can just walk out the front door to see Old Faithful and walk the boardwalks to many other geyers. It is a great location. You can even sit on their second floor deck to see Old Faithful. I called a couple times a week until a cancellation was made and we could get in. We also spent one night in the hotel at Canyan. Just because the Park is huge and it was closer to the other half of the Park and activities we wanted there.

The Lake Yellowstone Hotel is one of the nicest properties in the park (we ate there, didn't stay).

As cd said, Yellowstone is a *huge* place so it will be impossible to pick one spot convenient to the "main attractions." But YS is one of those places where the journey will be as pretty and interesting as the destination.

We spent 3 nights at the Lake Hotel in September and enjoyed it very much. It was less hectic than either the Old Faithful or Mammoth Hot Springs area. It is very close to Canyon and about a 45 minute drive to the Old Faithful and Mammoth areas. The food in the restaurant was quite good for a national park operation. It has a lovely large sunroom to read or have drinks and where there's a piano player on the weekends. At this point, you may have a difficult time getting reservations within the park. So I'd recommend taking whatever you can get and then calling back frequently to see if you can move to where you want.

My two favorite areas of Yellowstone are Canyon and Old Faithful. As mentioned previously, I would call to see what is available. If it were me though, I would spend two nights each in Canyon, Old Faithful, and Jackson Hole. Some will disagree with me since they prefer the Grand Tetons and would suggest you stick with the 3 nights in Jackson Hole. Bottom line though is the Yellowstone/Grand Teton areas offer you many opportunities to explore the region. If however, you are looking for a relaxing trip with less sightseeing, then Lake Yellowstone would be a better area.

We stayed at Lake Yellowstone for 4 nights last June. I was disappointed. It's a nice hotel for being in the middle of Yellowstone Park, BUT, it's run down and I didn't think the food was all that good in the restaurant. I liked the location of Old Faithful Inn, but it's very hectic in the lobby and seems very dark since its all wood. I had a really good cheese burger at the restaurant there that I liked a lot. As for the Lake Hotel, I strongly suggest you ask for the larger rooms without the lake front view or you will end up with one of the small dingy rooms. They say lake view rooms have lake views, but in actuality there is very little visibility and it's not worth it. We moved rooms once we had seen what we got, and were a lot happier in the bigger room. The park is gorgeous, and I'm sure you will have a wonderful trip!
Enjoy.

No one lodging facility is convenient to all parts of Yellowstone as others have pointed out. Try to split your stay between 2 areas.
The location of Lake Yellostone is pretty decent. Good access to the Canyon, old faithful and ofcourse the lake. Herds of buffalo graze very near the lodge.
Its far from Norris, Mammoth and the Tower/Roosevelt areas.
