Yellowstone-JAC Question(s)

My overpriced roundtrip LAX-JAC airfare has me departing Jackson at 11:25 a.m. on a Sunday (October 1). Yahoo! Maps tells me it's a 3 hour drive. If I want to have time to return the rental car and check-in two hours early, about what time would I want to leave the Old Faithful Snow Lodge/Cabins? Does 6:30 a.m sound about right?

Any suggestions for a decent pizzeria in West Yellowstone? (I'm electing to eat a lunch there just so I can say I've "been to" Montana -- yeah, I'm one of those "visit all 50 States" folks.)

Thanks all!

Hi Doubletee,

From Old Faithful to the Jackson airport would be about 2 1/2 hours without stops. I would plan on the 3 hours to be safe. Never know about road construction, slow RVs and wildlife jams.

The airport is tiny, so I think if you get there 1 hour early, you will be fine.

West Yellowstone is a very touristy town, almost nothing but motels, trinket shops. So I'm sure they have a pizza place, can't say as I've only been there once.

Have fun!

Thanks, Dale, I was figuring three hours would be a good buffer.

Just be forewarned that when we flew from the Jackson Hole Airport a couple years ago, they were very strict about their cutoff time for boarding your plane. At that time, you had to be ready to board no later than 45 minutes before flight time. And, they were very strict about it.

The Jackson Hole airport is so small, that when we return a car, they don't even ask where it is parked. They click the clicker a few times and find it. Get your boarding pass ahead of time and be there an hour early. Consider staying at the Jackson Lake Lodge cabins the night before you leave. These are very nice. As for Snow lodge, some of the rooms have tiny windows. Ask about yours when you check in. Also, I don't know what the roads are like in October.
