Yellowstone in park lodging Sept

Based on the advice I have gotten so far I am planning my Yellowstone/Teton trip for September instead of August. However, many of the places in the park I was hoping to stay will already be closed. I am hoping to keep costs low so was planning to stay at the cabins, but both Canyon and Roosevelt will be closed. Help!! I don't want to spend $150 every night (a few nights is fine).

Will we be able to rent a boat and go horseback riding this time of year?

Hello asugrad01

Have you tried this link:

http://www.travelyellowstone.com

You can pick an area or all areas, click on your dates, and it gives available lodging at that time.

There should also be information on horseback riding, etc.

We were there last September (mid month), and there were still boats on the lake and even some boat tours.

Can't remember seeing horseback riders in the park, but we did see several groups riding in the Jackson Lodge area of Grand Teton Park.

There are cabins available at mammoth and I am going to go ahead and reserve for a few nights there. I have been looking on www.travelyellowstone.com and the www.nps.gov site. I saw the closing dates on nps.gov and began to panic that everything would be closed! The cabins I had decided on where all closed! Thanks for the help.

Hmmm. We stayed in Canyon cabins in 2006 in mid Sept. We also checked out the Lake lodge and OFI cabins while we were there and they were occupied. The only place that was definitely unavailable was Roosevelt.

West Yellowstone and Gardiner will have tons of places at very good rates. You will love the absence of crowds!

maria_so,
Maybe they've changed some things since we were there in fall '06. I always call anyways since they have lots more available than ever shows up on the website. When are you going to YNP?

I did get a room at OFI for one night and I think we will camp the rest of the time in Yellowstone in order to save some money. We are planning to be in the Yellowstone/Teton area the second week of September and SD the first week of September.

Maybe I can try some of the other cabins on my next trip. I am sure we will be back one day when we have kids.
