Yankee's in Tampa Bay
For my husbands 40th birthday a friend is paying to see a NY Yankee game. Plane fare is expensive to NY plus it is hard to find a ticket to the game. I am looking at the series with the Devil Rays Sept. 19, 20 & 21. I need suggestions on hotels. Is there any public transportation or would we need to rent a car? Any help is welcome.

Your post it a bit confusing, are you coming to NYC or going to Tampa. IF you are coming to NYC, there is no beach, sorry. Lots of hotels, lol. Yankee stadium is easy to get to on the D train.
Tickets should be available on the Yankees.com website.

They are playing in Tampa Bay (St Pete to be exact). What sort of budget do you have for the hotel? My favorite on the beach is the Don CeSar (St. Pete Beach). It's expensive but is a beautiful renovated 20's era hotel with lovely beach and pool area. The Tradewinds is popular too but spotty on quality. Much further afield, you might look into Sheraton Sand Key (Clearwater Beach).
You'd be better off with a car getting to and from the stadium especially if you end up staying in CWB, IMHO.

I'd be really, really surprised if you couldn't find tickets. When the Yankees played at Tampa in June, the attendance was about 17,000 a game. Tropicana Field seats 46,000.
Try the Devil Rays website or the MLB.com website. With either, you should be able to purchase tickets.

I'm sorry my post is confusing. We were looking at going to NY but now are planning to fly to Tampa and go to games there. I have found some hotels at St. Pete's Beach and Treasure Island. I was hoping for continental breakfast but none seem to have it. There are great seats on the Devil Ray's home page. Thank you for the suggestions.
