Yankee Stadium
We will be visiting NY next week and are interested in taking our 13 year old son to the stadium. There are no home games next week, but we can take him on the stadium tour. Is it safe taking a subway from the city to Yankee Stadium? Is it are safe when walking from the subway stop to the stadium? Would you recommend the tour? Thanks!

I believe that the Mets are playing at Shea next week. Shea does not have the same atmosphere as Yankee Stadium. But unless he's a diehard Yankee fan, your son may prefer seeing a live baseball game.
The best part of Shea: One subway stop away is Main Street Flushing. You will find good and inexpensive oriental restaurants there.

No offense to Mets fans, but Shea is to Yankee Stadium as a picture of a dog playing cards is to a Monet.
That said, one option is to take the tour at Yankee Stadium and maybe take in a game at Shea.
In terms of safety, you should be fine around the stadium. As mentioned, the area immediately surrounding the Stadium is far better than it was.

The subway is fine.
Have lunch at Mickey Mantle's while in NYC. There's lots of memorabilia there. If you go to the Met museum, there is a small exhibit of baseball cards I believe on the 1st floor.
If he wants to watch a little ball for free, there's little league games all over the city (including in central park, the fields are around 100th st).
