Xmas in San Diego

I would really appreciate some feedback on a great place to spend a few days over the Xmas period in the San Diego area. We're coming from England where it will be cold and we realise San Diego is a lot warmer at this time of the year, but we're looking for somewhere with a bit of atmosphere and christmas spirit. Money isn't a big issue. Many thanks.

you might consider the hotel del coronado. it is very expensive but will probably have nice decorations etc. or, there are some inns by balboa park - the park might be decorated for christmas. the zoo is in the park.

Definately the Hotel del Coronado. It has atmosphere as well as the beach. The town of Coronado is also decorated and it makes a nice contrast with the beautiful beaches lining the shores. The lobby the Hotel del houses a famous Christmas tree that is decorated differently every year. The only downfall is that it can get very crowded during Christmas due to all the tourists, as well as the San Diegans that come to view the Christmas Tree.

thanks for the feedback. Any view on the Four Seasons? I know it's north of San Diego but would it be a good base?

If you are thinking about staying at the Four Seasons Aviara in Carlsbad, I would recommend it only if you are an avid golfer or are planning on going to Legoland. Carlsbad is about 30 miles from San Diego. There will be much more to do if you are closer to the city. As others have suggested, the Hotel Del will be expensive but great and much more convenient to the Zoo, Sea World, museums, shopping, the airport, good restaurants, etc. If you don't want to be on Coronado or downtown, try La Jolla.
