Would you pay for Internet on flights?

Delta has announced that it is about to integrate all of it's airline fleet with wireless Internet. The cost of logging in will be around $10 for a three-hour flight and $13 for longer flights. I do believe they are going to restrict the use of Skype or other voice systems. Good idea or bad? Just wondering.

Both.

Would be really helpful at times - but just another way to prevent me from escaping the office for a little while. (Still working - but often it's hard to read or write in the office - just too many people/meetings.)

$13 for longer flights? No

$5 for a 6hr flight - probably.

I don't take a computer on vacation, so my answer would be no.

To be part of the iMile High club?

TMobile charges $11/day at Starbucks. If it's fast enough (>100kps) and I really needed it, I'd pay up to $15, but if I had no need, I'd just load up whatever I'd want to read before I board.

Absolutely, especially if traveling for business.

The fees you suggested seem particularly reasonable to me because they are comparable to what I have paid for internet access hotel rooms.

People read, listen to their own CDs and stopped paying for movies. This is another way to get the lost revenue.

As for us, sure it's good as long as it's optional. If you see a woman watching your laptop screen, it's me, free entertainment

I'd probably pay for it if it was out of my own pocket but I can always expense it for work so, Yes.

American has internet service on their 762s JFK to MIA, LAX and SFO flights at the moment. The price is $12.95 and to me, it's worth every penny.

It's the same land based system that Delta will offer.

It works great.

Can I surf the internet, or just get my emails? If it's the former, absolutely (I can entertain myself all the way to Europe surfing the net). The latter - no way, my office can wait LOL!

Oh absolutely - I'd pay twice the price as long as the service was reliable - no dropping signals. So much better than other in-flight entertainment options!

It's a land based system so it's only available on flights in US and Canada.

It is very reliable, fast and you can surf the web. VOIP is the only part of the service that's not available at the moment, so passengers can't make calls using this service.

It depends on the speed. There are some services like NetFlix that stream movies over the web, so imagine for $10 you can have access to every movie in Netflix's library anywhere you go.

For business it is a must.

OK, so I'll entertain myself all the way to NY or DC! It's a no-brainer for me.

If I could expense it, yes.
On a long flight (6+ hours), yes.
Otherwise, no. What I like better is TV in the headrest, reading, iPod and sometimes, for variety, the airlines music feeds.
