I very rarely get sick or take sick days. My co-worker is sick all the time. It would be great if everyone got the same number of days, sick or not. Why should I be penalized for being (knock on wood) healthy?

On the rare occasion I do get a bug, I stay home immediately and just rest. I am usually over it in one day. My boss comes in even if he is coughing, hacking and feverish. It takes him weeks or even longer to get over it, not to mention spreading it around to everyone else.

I don't understand you guys who think you are being "penalized" for not being sick. I get sick days and I get vacation days. When I'm sick, I use sick leave, when I'm on vacation I use vacation days. If I am never sick, I consider myself lucky. I would hate to have to give up my summer vacation time just because I had the flu during the winter. If I don't get sick (I usually don't), I'm happy to have a large bank of sick leave available just in case something really bad happens.

And no, I have not used sick leave for travel. I'm a coward and would be afraid I'd get caught!

No I never have. Besides my office always knows when I'm traveling because I am excited and talk about it before hand (ad naseum). I might use a sick day upon return if my flight was delayed and got in extremely late, I really did get sick on the plane, or my jet lag has me reeling.

Would I call in sick on Monday to use it as a vacation day? No way! Monday is my busiest day, and if I am out of the office on Monday then on Tuesday I will have a triple load on my desk.

On Mondays I am an honest person.

Now Fridays are a different story. Everybody's relaxed. 2 more days ahead.
And nobody ever questions my suntan on Monday.

If I get sick days, I should use them, right? Once when the company I worked for, closed, I lost several sick days. It was a lesson. Now I call in sick when I see too many sick hours on the checkstub.

By the way, being stressed out is a legal reason for taking a sick days off, how many of you know that? And who can say s/he doesn't need a mini-vacation

My Uncle, a retired teacher and an avid golfer once taught me this saying;

"Never take a sick day unless you are well enough to enjoy it."

Agree with previous post about lumping sick and personal days together. Companies are crazy not to have pay for unused days. If I'm just going to lose them, hell yes I'll use them.

Agree with the above poster Beatle. I *earn* four weeks vacation and usually the only time I'm sick is when I need a mental-health day.
