would you choose the Mirage or Treasure Island for a January Vegas trip?

We love the Mirage and wouldn't stay anywhere else. We have had different sizes of standard rooms. The desk usually gives you a choice of either the volcano or pool view, for the same price. We always choose the pool view so that we can watch the dolphins play in the morning. The volcano may be too noisy. From what we've seen, T.I. is for kids.

Tess,
You must be visiting LV the same time my hubby and I are there. I agree, there must be some HUGE convention or something. Rates are through the roof. We need to be at the north end of the strip for business so I booked the Frontier, atrium rooms. I know this place isn't at the top of anyone's list, but it's handy to our business show. But even at Frontier, the rooms were just over $100/night! Yikes! I'm glad we've got our room, flights and rental car already lined up. I'd hate to be just now booking something for that weekend. Caesars was quoting a price of $5000 for the Sunday night we are in town! I can't imagine... I guess we'll see what's going on, huh?

I have stayed in the smaller deluxe rooms at the Mirage AND the larger deluxe rooms. Yes, the larger deluxe rooms are a bit bigger and have a separate shower and tub. The time we got the bigger room we were told we were being upgraded. Both rooms were nice, Mirage is like my second home!hehe

If the buffet is important - I have been told that the Mirage has stopped the buffet until June. Also heard that since Sigfried and Roy show has been cancelled the hotel is not very busy. We stayed there this past July had a room overlooking the volcano (they upgraded at no charge) it is usually $20 more they said. The room was very nice and service was excellent. In Jan there are good deals at TI - my friend stayed there last summer and was pleased - you can go out on the web and compare the rooms. TI is a smaller hotel but still very nice - they have a tram that you can take (free) from TI to Mirage or vice versa - anyway if you stayed at TI and would rather use Mirage casino and eat there you can take the tram - in Jan TI is definitely much cheapter than Mirage. You will have a wonderful time no matter where you stay.

Mirage is a good choice. Like everyone here I agree that Bellagio is far and away the best, Mirage is nice and classier than TI but TI is hardly a dump and they do have that Starbucks!
Both the Volcano and pool views are nice but I wouldn't pay extra for the volcano. If you do choose the volcano side get a room high up because the booming sound can be a little loud. Not horrible but if you are on 15 or above it is just a nice far away rumble. I prefer a high up room at all 3 casinos because the view to the surrounding mountains is very beautiful.

Don't know if Tess is still around, and she didn't mention the dates in January, but Bellagio is having a special of $159/nite w/$30 lakeview upgrade on Sun-Thurs nites thru March. Certainly beats $450!

Judy,
I'm here! I originally started this thread a year ago--fun to see it's still around. We did end up staying at the Mirage last year and upgraded to a Tower Deluxe Suite--fabulous!!!
We'll be back in Vegas this January ('05) and are trying Paris this time. Can't wait--there's just something about Las Vegas!
