If you want a job with no stablity, work in the airline industry. I cannot stress enough that this is not an industry you want to build a future in. My husband has been a "ramp rat" for almost 20 years and in that time he has went though pay cuts (too many times too mention), company bankruptcy and a merger/takeover. You don't know how many sleepless nights we've had wondering if the axe would fall the next day. Yeah, the perks are great...I've travelled first class to places people only dream of going...but you also have to take the good with the bad...I've had to pay $5000 to get out of India when there wasn't a flight out for days (on any airline) and we both had to get back for work. Oh and the black out in 2003?...that was me arriving at LAX going 'what the hell?!' when I saw the departure screen say 'cancelled' for every flight (we finally got out three days later). And I know all too well the sinking feeling you get when you're waiting for your name to be called on the stand by list. Fortunately with C1 upgrades and my husband's seniority we're usually ahead of the pack, but that doesn't help when there aren't any seats on the plane. The last few trips we've went on we've paid confirmed airfare just to avoid the hassle (and the ulcer). Tell her to go for the 8-5 desk job...She can pay for confirmed tickets and not have to deal with demanding customers and an industry that is teetering on the brink.
