Thank you all for your help. We're now thinking of renting a place through vrbo.com since the prices are cheaper than a hotel and things like tennis and parking are included in the rates. Has anybody done this? Are there any problems with doing this over a hotel? We don't want to miss out on anything but it seems like the hotel fee pays just for the room and we'd have to pay for any activities anyway. We're thinking we'd be better off to pay less for lodging (that looks just as nice) and have more to spend on golf and horseback riding, etc.

We use VRBO a lot. We have yet to have a bad experience. Because we like to be able to cook and barbecue etc it works out well for us. We also have a small dog so the condo is more convenient from that aspect. You mentioned wanting to swim so you would have to find out if the complex has a pool and other amenities. The other thing regarding golf - my husband uses ezlinks.com. Check out that website if you are not familiar with it. You can bid on the times that are posted and get great deals. If you come in early April the weather will be warmer and the golf will be cheaper. There are lots of great golf resorts participating so that is something to check out. If you book a time you can cancel up to 24 hours ahead if things don't work out. Good luck and enjoy your visit ot Tucson.

We live in Tempe-suburb of Phoenix. If you are looking for warm temps-Phoenix area is usually a bit warmer than Tucson. Temps are about mid 80s at that time but could range from 70s to 100. Warm enough to get in a heated pool. Be prepared for cool nights. I also recommend looking at vrbo.com for lodging. My favorite hiking in the Phoenix area is the Superstition Mountains. Hiking in Sedona is spectacular. Phoenix is closer to Sedona than Tucson. Lots of great hiking within the Phoenix area too- South Mountain Park, Camelback Mountain, and more.

elnap29, we are thinking of Death Valley, Furnace Creek Inn, a year from now. I know the spring flowers can't really be predicted and I also see Easter is March 23. If this is a popular spot for spring break or families with children, we would try to schedule either earlier or later. Have you suggestions?

Sylvia

Hi, SylviaCaras -If you know when you want to go, just make sure you reserve your room early. March is a good time to go; Early April is usually good, too, but one year we had perfect weather first week of April; then my parents went April 9 and it was so hot they could barely breathe.
Furnace Creek Inn is an old 1920's style resort, previously frequented by Hollywood folk. For us, Furnace Creek Ranch is just fine - clean, comfortable and less expensive. We can always go to the Inn for a drink or dinner. But if you stay there you will have that pool with the fabulous view. Do you like hiking? I can give some ideas about what to see and do there, depending on the things you like to do. Mty husband has been going there almost every year for the last 40 years and we go about every 2 years together.

Re Death Valley - don't worry about Death Valley being too crowded at Spring Break. It is a huge place and there will be little difference (except maybe more kids in the pool).

I don't know if this is too late and you already left for your trip but we just came back from a Dude Ranch in Tucson: www.tanqueverderanch.com if you are active you would love it. Horse back riding, hiking, mountain biking, tennis...
They are normally booked but they also have last minute cancellations (that is how we got ours). For a set price it includes all meals and ALL ACTIVITIES! Well run, well structure and beautiful 650 acres of scenery.
Good luck
