Winston-Salem Hotel Nearest Joel Coliseum

DH and DS2 want to go to the Davis Cup quarterfinals in Winston-Salem in April. Are any of the hotels within walking distance? Some purport to be, but mapping the route shows that they're across highways in some cases.

Is anyone familiar with this area? My boys care less about the quality than the proximity of the hotel. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Courtyard by Marriott -3111 University Pkwy, Winston Salem, NC - (336) 727-1277

University Parkway is a very wide road with multiple lanes, however you should be able to cross easily with the traffic controls.

Should you choose the Marriott you would not need to cross University Pkwy.

kswl, hope that works well for them. I do recommend driving to get to any meals other than fast food. It would be a very easy drive through the WFU campus to Reynolda Road. Left on Reynolda at the light just beyond the security gate and left at the first stop light on Reynolda. Dinner at Village Tavern and lunch at Simply Yummy. Both easily found in the village. If either of them is a history buff, I highly recommend a tour of Old Salem or a walking tour of Bethabara Park. Of course, I know enough tennis fans to appreciate that they may not do a single thing during their stay except watch tennis!

You are 100% correct about that, cmcfong... they're not interested in anything but tennis. I am hoping to make them at least look at colleges in the area, though, as DS is a high school sophomore.

No luck on that Courtyard; it is completely sold out, as is everything else within a few miles of the coliseum. DH just decided last night that he'd like to go, and now he will probably have to purchase a pricey package from USTA to get reasonably close accomodations. I can take off my "travel agent" hat now

Although those hotels within walking distance are sold out, consider that anything reasonably close to either I-40 or US 52 will be a very short drive to the Joel Coliseum. Those near Old Salem will be a ten minute drive, max. Same for anything showing as near Hanes Mall. Should still be some reasonably priced options available.

I certainly hope she takes a look at WFU (Go Deacs) and Salem, two excellent schools in Winston Salem.

OOPS I hope he takes a look at WFU, maybe not so much Salem!
