Coco is right. Sonoma is the place to go. We always enjoy visiting the town of Healdsburg and eating at Bistro Ralph!
The tourists all go to Napa. One must-see place in Napa, however, is Jarvis winery. It is an astonishing place (all underground in a cave) but you need to call ahead.

Fodors has a small book dedicated to the Wine Country. I used it on my last trip there and it was extremely helpful with suggestions for off-beat vineyards to the most luxurious/corporate ones. Also, great recommendations for restaurants in the areas. Plus maps, etc.
